My local public school is trying to close the track to the public for a whole year because of the virus. This seems like a unreasonable decision to me. What are your thoughts? What might I be able to do to fight this?

cool story bro
You didnt pay for the $1.1M facility and are not part of the student body whom the district is liable for.
You really have no business having an opinion. It was a privilege while it lasted.
Hmmm well I certainly helped pay for it. And the student body is definitely not using it at the moment. So I don’t think this decision is as understandable as you claim.
This was clearly the easy way for the school to go, but it obviously is not the best decision.
And of course it’s my business to have an opinion.
1 Nobody can get insurance. Not even NFL Teams. That means the taxpayers or parisioners who own your school ate on the hook for lawsuits for the rest of their lives. The school can't ask people for that sort of commitment.
2 Unless there is staff to keep runners 30 feet apart (yes, 30 feet for runners, bicyclists, and skateboarders) your school is liable for infections, hospitalizations, undertaker, and burial fees.
3 Your school already knows 1 and 2 because it's been in the news for months. Thus any Disclaimer or Waiver you and/or your parents sign is inapplicable since they knew ahead of time you could get sick and die. IOW, taxpayers or parishioners are on the hook for the rest of their lives.

It is your business to form an opinion about upcoming elections. It is also your best interest to find a different place to run.

Are you trying to say that if a person gets infected while on the high school’s property the school is then liable for any expense they incur as a result? Even if the transmission occurred outside of school hours and didn’t happen during any sort of official school event?
If so, you are completely wrong my friend.
Illogical but not that logic has mattered. If Americans weren't so fat and in such poor health the virus wouldn't be as bad. The country should be pushing for better health but that has been completely ignored.
Mine never closed. We have high school baseball and softball taking place as usual. The normal sanctioned summer XC training is taking place with high school coaches. A youth baseball tournament took place last weekend with 160 teams from 5 states participating. There were thousands of people and no masks. The second high school level track meet is next week with 300 entries from several states. Do I live in a different country than some of you?
silly to think that someone could blame a school district for getting the virus while running on an outdoor track...way more public places that are open and way more congested with many places like stores, where things need to be touched ...but blame it on the school district...
I found a nice NCAA D3 track to workout on this morning and didn't even have to jump the fence.
Good Luck!
