Will keep it brief... started running regularly last June at age 39. No history of regular exercise my whole life, and a sedentary job. I have been lucky though, never had a real problem with weight gain or health generally. Average/mediocre diet, non smoker, a few beers most weeks. 5'10", 154lb (was ~170lb last June)
Over the last year I've gradually built up to an average of 35mpw with a few 40 mile weeks in there. In the absence of anything else, I've been using the free training plans in Garmin Connect. Most weeks are 2 workouts, 1 easy/recovery run and 1 long run. Love the occasion of racing, and have run a half dozen or so over the last year.
PBs
400 - 60ish
Mile - 5:3x
5K - 19:2x
10K - 40:2x
10 Mile - 69 min
Half - 93 min
No major injuries or niggles over the last year, bar a few minor calf strains and some upper foot tendonitis. I did have some hip pain that went away when I started doing hip circles after every run. Run in Peg Turbo 2 on easy/long days, Boston 7 for workouts/races.
Any comments welcome. Current goals are sub-19/sub-40/sub-90 and a first marathon next year when things open up again.
