This, and also don’t run for a school in Texas, too hot and humid.
Run your threshold sessions below threshold and do more of them.
All good points above.

1) Don't run for a university whose colors are orange and black.
2) Tell myself about my food allergies. I had health issues that really messed up my running from this and didn't figure it out until I had been out of college for a couple years.
Don't run on HS/college teams that undertrain. And don't overcompensate for it by overtraining. And for f's sake, get right to the running and don't get interested in the triple jump.

Is “below threshold” faster or slower than threshold pace?

For me, it would be focusing on getting enough sleep, eating healthier, and partying less.

Slower. I do tons of sub-threshold runs (as do the NAU guys) and I am shocked at how much better I am than when I was running my tempos faster. Sometimes I'll still ramp it up but not as often. It's great advice.
Mine:
Do speed year round (but take a lot of rest). I used to think the speed work made you peak, but that's not the case. It's the speed work on short rest that makes you peak--VO2 max work or faster work without adequate rest. The speed work is useful year round.
Do the events you find most exciting. People get too caught up thinking about what they could be best at, or what they have trained for, rather than thinking about what they actually want to do. Pick the race that you find exciting rather than the one you think you might be most successful at and you'll keep that passion for training.

Weekly miles are overrated.
