I’m not a really long time runner, but I was off to my personal best training season this year. I was running 25 to 35 miles a week over 4 to 5 runs and my average pace was excellent for me. I was really happy with my level of fitness and was feeling great!
Then I wake up one morning with a sore throat and long story short, I got sick and couldn’t run. I’ve gotten common colds before and have taken a few days off but not like this. After a week of getting worse I went into the clinic and was diagnosed with a sinus infection and bronchitis. That was over a week ago and it’s mostly out of my head but still in my chest. I’ve been on antibiotics but I’m far from back to 100%. I took 10 days off from running and then tried on Monday. I went 4 miles. I had to stop and walk 3 separate times and the run was terrible. I can’t breath as my chest is so congested.
I’m a very healthy person and have never had an illness for this long. And no they did no test me for COVID because they thought my risk was low based on the questions they asked me.
I’m soooo super bummed. I feel like a lazy waste. I was cranking off 8 mile runs no problem and then doing another 5 the next day. Now I can’t even do 3 miles without stopping and completely struggling. I so worried I’m going to lose all my training and the fitness I was able to achieve previously.
I’m sure this happens to all runner at some point, even world class athletes. Any advice? I don’t want too push it too early but am I back at the beginning? I was so far along and doing great! I can run with a stuffy nose but I just can’t breath and end of coughing and choking terribly. Anyone with experience able to offer anything? Thanks.
