Sorry, I tried to make it clear. Every student is required to undergo a PCR test as a condition of returning to campus. So it is equivalent to a random test. They are able to do this because they have their own private lab.
That's why I say 10% is a huge number.
Thanks for the clarification. I simply dont understand why, in the UK, with 99 000 tests being wasted, we cant, once or twice, set aside 50 000 tests to get an actual measure of the population. And i simply dont see how we could hit 5000 positives in a random trial when we hit less than 1% as it is.
We continue to waste 99000 tests per day to protect the nhs whilst symptomatic people are told to stay at home and take paracetomol until they need hospital at which point 25% will die.
Coming back to your 10% random +ve, there seem to be two options;
1) dont believe it - blame test method / testers
2) place head under pillow

In partnership with Brian Kemp? Isn't that the idiot who sued the mayors for mandating wearing masks? He seems a little confused.
8/7 Data
Sorta getting to a better place now, in terms of the 7 day rolling average of daily deaths.
Three straight down days of deaths both around the world and in the US.
Not quite enough to believe a top has been put in, but maybe. Good signs.
In the US the four problem states added together actually have *fewer* deaths than a week ago.
That's a sharp falloff...just a few days ago the growth was +32% week over week.
It would be the first such sharp falloff in deaths that I've seen. Not that it hasn't happened...but I haven't noticed it happen anywhere. So my bs filter is triggered.
But good right now.

Yes. Same idiot.
The mayor is doing the right thing and the idiot governor is still fighting over it.
It's unbelievable that you have a governor who is fighting hard on behalf of the virus. Republicans are the pro-virus party.

The mayors issued "guidelines".
That's how dishonest this all has been.
Guidelines enforced as laws.

have you ever explained your strange tactic of having a 'don't worry so much' fact followed by conventional wisdom advice?
I don't really get what you are doing. You seem to be trolling, as if to say
"COVID is way overhyped so I'll make some ironic comments to show you how stupid this whole thing is"
Is that what you are doing? Or something else? Weird, weird, weird.

How does posting the fact that 48% of reported deaths over the past week are from nursing homes saying "COVID is way overhyped" or showing "how stupid this whole thing (COVID) is"? Close to 200 of our most vulnerable died last week. I certainly don't construe this as something positive. And it is a merely a fact.
Mostly, I present various stats showing current trends. I guess, depending on your viewpoint, some can be taken as positive or negative. Georgia has passed it's most recent peak in cases/hospitalizations, so perhaps you've interpreted some of the stats I have posted regarding those two metrics as more "positive" since they are improving. Deaths are still rising (perhaps nearing the peak) and I have reported those facts as well. I no longer post much commentary on the stats I provide since there seem to be so many trolls on here. Often, the back and forth comments are not constructive to the argument.

to your bolded question: Many right wingers use the fact that a very large number of covid deaths took place in nursing homes. The right wingers think that fact means shutdowns are crazy - that we're over-reacting. I can't help but think that is what you meant also. But you say that's not your thing, so ok.
Again, it is a fact, a statistic. I can't control how other people interpret that fact. Personally, I think it is horrible that so many have died in nursing homes. A death is a death, no matter the circumstance or age of the deceased. They are all someone's parent, grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc.
In the past on this thread, I've made it quite clear that this pandemic is terrible and has been mishandled from the beginning. Some people on this thread are waiting for the magic bullet to show up or waiting for the government to do something for them. Don't wait. Do what YOU can do now to help slow/stop COVID and stop complaining about what others have or have not done.

no, I don't see that one as a loaded stat. But many or even most of your posts are indeed 'loaded' stats. that mean a lot politically, usually used by trumpists.

Yes, brazen2 is weird, but I don't see the nursing home fact as 'don't worry so much'. It's just a random fact.
brazen2 often posts random facts with no context whatsoever.

Race is listed as "unknown" for more Georgians than are listed as black or white. With so many unknowns, and no reason to be confident that the unknowns have the same racial, hospitalization, and death breakdowns as those whose race is listed, I don't think we can be sure that the above percentages are close to accurate for the state as a whole.
That said, for my county (Muscogee), which has almost no unknowns listed among the deaths, I was interested to see that nearly all of the younger deaths have been African-Americans and most of the older ones have been white. A quick glance at the oldest (89+) and youngest (<30) deaths for the state suggests that the same pattern holds true for the state as a whole, even taking into account that the white population probably skews a little older than average and the African-American population probably skews a little younger.
