I just did 5 sets for intervals today at around a 6 minute per mile pace
5 x 350m with 2 minute rests? That's good. On your steady run days between interval days forget about easy pace and 12:30 miles. Run for 30 minutes at a moderate to hard effort. You're not fit enough for easy days between hard days. That's a recommendation for more advanced runners.
^ This. Please listen to this advice.
Any update David?
I just did an all-out 800 meter run today, and I did it in 3:02 minutes. I still suck.

That sounds like an improvement.
You can now keep up this somewhat talented guy who trained one mile per day for half of his mile time trial.

Except it took me 20 MPW to get there

He's talented (52.00 400 m in high school on 5 weeks training). You are not. Also, he's not going to get much faster than 6:05 if he keeps it at 1 mile per day. I suspect he already gave up, given the lack of updates.
Also he trained every day. You were/are slacking 2 days a week.

It is so unfair that I have no talent.
Some people are born with no legs.

This guy is stressing out about doing a 1 mile training run on a wet track? Wow...

It’s not fair or accurate to claim that you have no talent if you lived a sedentary life up until the last year or two. You have poor fitness, and it is therefore impossible to know if you have talent or not. If someone let’s their body atrophy for 10-15 years, they are not going to be fast for years after they start training again. You see this with guys who got fat and started running again in their 40’s. If they ever get faster again it takes years of consistent effort. If a dude stopped running but stayed somewhat fit by playing basketball or soccer or something 3+ days a week, then maybe they can get reasonably fast again in the first year after they restart running specific training. (This all applies to someone who was fast but got less fit. I imagine it takes longer to get fast for someone who was never fast yet.)

That a one eyed man is a King among the blind.
I genuinely think David is a troll, but this x10000
I ran low 17s at 50 mpw. Took 4-5 years off to play games, smoke pot, and go to school. Zero exercise.
I’m back up to 20mpw roughly and low 18s. Took me two years to get to this point due to a few significant injuries. Working really hard to not get hurt even at my low mileage.
If you’re not a troll, David, be patient. Running fitness takes a while to build. Stop doing time trials and be more consistent with your training. Reassess your fitness by the quality of your training and by listening to your body.
There’s no races anytime soon.
David, your attitude and mind are holding you back.
You have to love the process more than the outcome, if you keep the negative attitude up, you're not going to get anywhere, in training or in life.
Just go for a run because you enjoy it, stop the time trialing and the desire for "talent" etc.
Just run.
David, do you happen to be extremely well endowed? That may explain your times, and inability to get faster.
