Did Mike Rossi (viral marathon dad) cheat his way into Boston?

Does Mr Hoffa know Mr Felice didn't tell the RD last year? Should Mr Hoffa should wait until Mr Felice confirms whether he did or didn't before he starts ranting? Am I an idiot and missing something here?

As it has been written before, the cutoff did not deny a single person, it denied a whole group of runners who had the same BQ-n down to the very second. Unless it was Mike Rossi's entry that bumped the cutoff down by a second his individual entry did not affect the cutoff. I would say the number is closer to 30-40 than it is to one.

I also don't think that the BAA owes anyone anything at this point. They're not in the business of casual chain analysis and they're not liable for situations like this. Sometimes you just have to suck it up. Such is life. The only thing they can and should do is impose a lifetime ban for Mike Rossi so he would never get another chance at running the race fulfilling his "once in a lifetime chance" prophecy. And I'm pretty sure they will do that given the integrity of the BAA and the prestige of the race.

We should make Mike Rossi an offer. If he apologizes, we offer to coach him once he gets healthy from his butt pain or whatever he has now.

I think Rojo and the other great coaching minds here can bring him down to 3:20 or whatever he needs to actually qualify for Boston. I don't think he should run Boston again, obviously, as he already got to enjoy that experience.

It would be cathartic for all involved and would be a good ending to a really bizarre story.

Why? I don't think anyone owes him anything. The last thing I'm going to do is bribe him to admit guilt. Getting DQd from Lehigh, banned from Boston and kicked out of Chicago is good enough for me. Well that and the public shaming that he is about to endure as nothing can stop that train.....Nothing!

My position, if you see something, say something. If he had suspicions back then, he should have emailed the RD. That's what I would have done.

You're right, they are not liable and don't owe anyone anything. However, BAA has said that they ail look into this if he is DQd from his qualifier. It would be a good PR move, if Rossi is DQd, to let the next group in. I have no idea how many people submitted entries 1 second over the cutoff time, but even 30-40 wouldn't hurt the BAA. They wouldn't need to disclose the names of the automatic qualifiers but they could say they allowed the additional entrants. How many people were given automatic entries to the 2014 race that weren't able to finish in 2013 ?

"3:20", FMD are you kidding?, we wouldn't bother our arse for that, we're all at least sub 2:30, globe trotting, highly paid professionals and chick magnets. If Magic Mike is interested in attaining any of those credentials we'll certainly help him but not for a 3:20.

This is some of the most intentionally obtuse reasoning I've seen in this thread. Do you really think an 89 page thread develops because of concern for a single person's opportunity to run Boston?

If Rossi was DQ'd in September, this gets no publicity at all (making the very generous assumption that a random "hey, this time is fishy"email would receive any attention whatsoever). Now that he's gotten himself national attention, people will pay attention. Believe me, every marathon RD is hearing about this. Hopefully, given the publicity, more races start taking at least basic precautions against cheating (i.e., putting down mats), and Boston and other marathons tighten up their standards for qualifying races.

So yeah, it is about the integrity of the sport. But to think it's only about one person is a pretty shallow conclusion.

We can get an DQ or an asterisk or his name completely removed from the Boston results, but he still had the chance to line up and cross that finish line WITHOUT the suffering from training that everyone who actually qualified had to endure.

We can't take away the experience from him no matter how much we shame him. We can make him hurt and realize just how hard a 3:11 feels.

Are we done here? Is there something that still needs to be examined? I want another huge SS to work on.

Yeah. Read a page or so back. poster said felice knew but "sat on it" until the dude went all people magazine on the world. Posted it on Rwol. Didn't reach out to RD. Not ranting. Just feel bad for that one guy.

Of course he should have emailed the RD, but I think there was zero chance of Rossi getting DQed back in September. Seems like the RD is only investigating now because of bad press.
