. . . Has anyone -- college or pro -- even run a 25-point final lap in an indoor distance race? . . .
Ovett went 25.1 for the last 200m of the 1977 World Cup (11.8 for the penultimate 100m) in a 3:34.45 race.
Coe closed in 25.4 in 52.4 last 400m in the 1980 Olympics.
Isaac Nadar's final 200 last year in Tokyo was 25.31. Robert Farken also was in the 25s.
And . . . and . . . and . . . Jim Ryan ran a sub-50 final lap in Germany way back when -- so at least one sub-25 200 there.
But, point made.
Indoors, Sahlman's 24.9 was almost certainly the fastest final 200 we've ever seen in a indoor race 800 meters on up. And he started celebrating 50 meters out.
We told you guys these altitude conversions are bs. Especially for Landon Bott last place in the prelims but he was given a 1:45 conversion without ever breaking 1:47 in his life. Where was #1 seed Isaiah Givens today?!?
One of the few accurate altitude conversions was Cristian Soratos 3:55 altitude conversion we all argued about back then. And he at least backed it up with a runner up finish in the mile battling with Cheserek.
I remember that race. He went from like 1000 out, didn't work but it had balls.

I vaguely recall a 3:34ish race between 2006-09 that someone closed in 50 point , a World Athletics tour level or equivalent
Abdi Bile closed his 3:36.80 1987 world champ title in 51.4 too
and Hockers 3:53.71 was a 25.87 closer

Wrong tenth for Hocker
Sahlman was straight up sprinting the last lap that was cool. Also VT’s Christian Jackson ran a 1:44.6 800m leg. I’d have liked to see a fresh McFarland vs Sahlman in that spot because if anyone else could match a 24.9 last 200 it’d be him. But he looked pretty compromised.
THAT is the Colin Sahlman tactical race we've been waiting for. Holy cow that last 250 was vicious. He closed in 24, while celebrating 3 separate times lol.
Well his problems in previous races ws positioning in a large pack and here nau blew the race open so positioning was not an issue. That said he executed this race well.
It looks to me like w team title will be close between IL, UGA, OR and I think OR may have highest potential if the mile goes very well for them. But a lot of competition in that mile. UGA needs to win a few sprints. IL needs to score big in hj.
Simeon ran 3:52 for the anchor leg of the DMR. Fastest split of the mile leg.
the rest of the Oregon team didn’t look too good. If they had Tomas in 1200 leg without a doubt Oregon would be top 3.
cook did not look good. Must be sick or something. I’m hoping he can bounce back for the 3k. He will be my sleeper pick.
However, I believe it will be Marco, Burns or Habtom for the 3k win. Burns will be fresh
Are you serious? Burns will be lucky to finish in the top half of that race. Even with a 3:52 mile in his legs, Simeon will easily finish ahead of Burns.

Burns? Wtf is Burns going to do against Habtom, Sahlman, and Marco (Macro)?
Birnbaum went waay deep just to get a 7th, they should have shut him down, because of all the guys that ran yesterday. he ran the hardest , a 3:52.x for 7th? Oregon has 2 Points, not in contention for anything. ...Sahlman gets the break here,if anyone as he only had to run 3:57.x albeit this blistering last 200 split, which I still find hard to believe as he was waving and hotdogging it in(but I just retimed it and got 24.8-25.0). Deservedly so I guess. I think in a 7:40's race Sahlman could be advantaged here more that I would have thought. I would like to see Marco win here obviously as I am a fan of the running part and have been balanced to critical on the other stuff. I do not see him leading, and I think he and Samuel would want it solid enough as to not give Sahlman a free ride to bang in late.
