I actually thought that a lot of those boos were being directed at Serena. Am I wrong?
Yes, I believe you are wrong. They were upset with the umpire for actually enforcing the rules.
There is a reason the reporters in the press conference room applauded her.

How about the boorish New York crowd?
Osaka becomes first ever to win a grand slam from her first country. In her big moment 25,000 boo the ceremony, making the 20 year old kid hide her face and cry.
Serena calls them the best crowd in the world. Not what the rest of the world was thinking.
Roid rage
It's crazy to think Serena was the player with 23 majors and not the one in her first major.
The situation would have been over with just the warning if she hadn't escalated it. Video shows her looking at the coach and the coach morning and nodding. Plus the whole admission thing. Also, does anyone think the players don't know Ramos rep as a rules stickler.
I'd think there's be a difference to an umpire if a player says a call is crap and calling him a thief over and over.
And as far as the sexism goes, I'll just re-iterate the 3 sets vs 5 plus add in the whole freaking screaming every stroke debacle.
This got me thinking of the 49 year old who said he would literally pound a Kenyan into the ground for beating him. Everyone at the awards banquet were laughing at him and thought he was a joke. I wonder if Serena was influenced by him.
What violation is Federer sometimes committing that the judges are ignoring? Name one.
Federer doesn't look at his coach in the crowd between points -- what Serena got dinged for yesterday.
Federer doesn't step over the line before hitting his serve -- what Serena got dinged for in a previous US Open and what set off her famous "I'm going to shove this ball down your throat" outburst. (As a side note, Federer has a very unique serve motion in which he doesn't even move his feet before hitting the ball.)
Both Federer and Serena have tournaments rigged in their favor because the tournament directors give them cakewalk "Draws" because the tournaments make more money if the popular players make the final.
Federer has had some mild outbursts (nothing like Serena's) during a big match when it seemed like the match was being rigged against him. One was during Wimbledon against Nadal when Hawkeye made several line calls that looked to be obviously wrong (Miscalibration? By design? See the video below). But in theses cases Federer is mad at the ruling, not mad that at the umpires for making the ruling in the first place. I've never an example where Federer commits a violation and then gets mad at the umpires for calling him out on it.

I see it, but I'm still thinking about the pics Jamin posted.

She says she wasn't getting coaching.
The tennis Ass. needs to provide evidence or just shut up and apologise to her.
Not sure if this is the evidence you were looking for, but...
Williams’ coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, later admitted to an ESPN reported that “I was coaching.”
“I’m honest, I was coaching..”
But Serena says that she was not being coached and that she never cheated in her life and wanted an apology and called the umpire a thief because of that. How is this possible if her coach said that he was indeed coaching her.? Could she (like Lance) also be a compulsive liar?
Cnn had Christine Brennan on. She is a writer for the post and is sindicated. She added the race card to the sex card. If they do not like the coaching rule get it changed. Do not blame the umpire for enforcing a rule that the coach admitted violating.
Anyone arguing that McEnroe’s behavior was celebrated or at the very least ignored must not have been alive when he was playing. Wimbledon broke a 100- year tradition and did not offer him a membership to the All England Club after he won the 1981 championship. He was fined quite a bit for his antics during that tournament, too.

NIke's new slogan should simply be "Just cheat and lie and then aggressively go after people that say that you cheat and lie"
What Federer says on paper is worse than what Serena says. If you write out the script, "Don't f--king talk to me," etc. But if you watch it, he comes off a lot milder than Serena. We're all trained to think she's out of control because she has a higher pitched voice. The ump didn't even give him a warning.

CNN? Fake news!

Everything is about her, she cares nothing about the respectful new champion, who thrashed her fair and square. A 20 year old who achieved her greatest accomplishment stolen by and ignorant, self absorbed brat.
This is the part that's overlooked. This was the greatest moment in young Osaka's life and Serena made it all about herself. This is lack of sportsmanship on an epic level.
Serena is a spoiled, immature 36-year-old brat.

Probably because you are some kind of overweight demented pervert sitting in the dimly lit basement of your mom's house.
He who smelt it dealt it Francis. Wanna race me over 5k? I win.
That Federer outburst is different because
* He was unhappy at the umpire for not enforcing the rules (whereas Serena was mad at the umpire for enforcing the rules ... pointless)
* He had already accepted the umpire's decision to let Delpo challenge the call, wasn't trying to get the umpire to undo his decision and wasn't telling him 100x "Apologize to me!" or calling him a "thief"
* He was talking to the umpire between games, not during a game. It's considered much more unsportsmanlike to talk to the umpire during a game because that interruption when you're losing can be a tactic to try and throw off your opponent's rhythm (Nadal is known to do this with "injury timeouts")
*He wasn't getting physically in the umpire's personal space
* The ump knew that Federer was correct
* It was a first offense in the match; and Serena also didn't get any type of penalty for initial first outburst, only when she wouldn't let it go after her 5th outburst
Have you realized how your president acts? Why do you care about a tennis player? Perhaps because she is black? Hopefully not nigerian like Obama
Federer has had his share of unsportsmanlike moments
* Crying at the trophy ceremony of AO '12 after losing to Nadal
* A press conference after a match with Djokovic where he said that one of Djokovic's returns that decided the match was "lucky"
* Coming out to the Wimbledon court in that white suit coat embroidered with his name as if he owned the tournament or something
* At least one or two press conferences where he bragged about how talented he is
* Frequent racquet smashes when was a junior
* Racquet smashes every couple years while being a pro
and they were criticized by the press.
Nothing besides personal opinion has been presented in this thread to support the idea that "Federer gets away with everything because he's a White Male and Serena doesn't because she's a Black Female."
