People in Portland used to say, "Summer starts after the 4th of July" but now it is a totally, insane crap shoot. 90° in early June used to be totally unheard of.
It is not political to say, "The climate has measurably changed in the PNW." Heck, we hit 115° back in 2022. That is the dumbest thing ever... but that was a fluke. What is not a fluke is the longer, hotter, average temps that we are measuring year after year.

Hot weather sucks.
Is Portland in some kind of frying pan? The last 3-5 years in Seattle have been some of the mildest in my 69 years here. Not even any real fires last year, much to the frustration of the little blue haired Gretas.
I apologize. I did not start this thread with a political agenda.
I just can’t believe that they are going to expect athletes to go after qualifying times in 80 degree weather.
Well, there's no chance of hitting the qualifying times with that weather, but it's also on them for NOT HAVING ALREADY HIT THE QUALIFYING TIME AND LEAVING IT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.

On June 28, 2021, the third day of a withering heat wave in the Pacific Northwest, the temperature in Seattle soars to 108 degrees, an all-time record. The reading is recorded at nearby Seattle-Tacoma...
Hopefully the meet director will handle it like Sound Running. Get the athletes and coaches together and ask what time or day they should run it. Mornings look best. A couple years ago Sound Running pulled everyone together the night before the event and changed it by a day.

People are flying in day of the meet. That's a bad call.
Good grief the lying climate apocalyptos are losing their minds over perfect summer weather.
I am not losing my mind... I just wanted to point out that as a lifelong resident of the PNW, we never used to need A/C, homes never had A/C, and we expected June to still be pretty mild and rainy. Summer really did used to start "after the 4th of July" for us.
Now it starts earlier, is measurably hotter, much drier, and lasts longer. You see it in the mountains where the glaciers just aren't what they used to be (for mountain climbers). This isn't political, this is just something we can see and measure when we are outdoors in the world. As runners, we tend to care a lot about air quality and the environment because we are "in it" more than most people.
BTW, if someone says, "we've always had 90° days!" they are right. But we didn't used to have 25 or 30 of them. We had 10. To act like there is nothing happening is weird since measuring things is just science/math. It isn't political at all.
No one is requiring you to care or do anything. But in the name of common sense at least admit it is indeed getting hotter and hotter. Even this older graphic show that the hottest years are all fairly recently (and the last three years have been even worse):

Sorry but I spent my adult life reading graphs and this graph supports zero to your point. There is no trend. Find better references to support your flaky agenda

He's obviously not someone meriting a serious response --just one more of the deeply sad little army of right-wing trolls the JoBros nurture and protect who think it's cute to pretend that up is down, lies are truth, global warming is 'a hoax invented by George Soros,' and the 108-degree day in Seattle or the huge increase in 90-degree days didn't happen and aren't continuing to happen.
It's best to block them, but since lots of them --like this dip-sh*t-- don't have to guts to register, you have to just ignore them.

Not a right wing troll just a resident of the PNW over 60 years who doesn't think the sky is falling when the temperature hits 81 in June.

What do you think when 30 of the next 90 days are going to be over 90°? Is that "normal" to you? We live in the temperate PNW. If it is 90° here then it is 110° in Fresno. Do you really want all of the world to move north? No thanks.
Does anyone know how hot it will be in the Sudan, India, and Mexico when it is 100° in the temperate, norther latitudes? Where do you want those people to move to when their part of the planet is unlivable?
But honestly, I just want people to admit that 30 days each summer over 90° is more than 10 days. Is that asking too much?
