8 athletes in the top 10 are from East Africa, and 6 of them from Kenya. Interesting. I guess it has to do with the rampant culture of juicing in the NCAA, given that they live nowhere near Kenya...

Big difference between 28:10 Kenyans and 26:50 Kenyans. NCAA system gets the scraps. These guys are likely not even top 300 amongst their countrymen. There’s some guy living in a mud hut right now about to go out to herd goats that is completely unknown to the world that would absolutely destroy every one of these guys. In fact, there’s probably 100 undiscovered just like him. These guys were just lucky and got their chance.

I wonder how many of them will use the Leonard Korir model of perusing their Olympic dreams: go to the US for university, get your free degree, realize you have no chance of making an Olympic team in your home country, get fast-tracked for citizenship in the US, qualify for US Olympic team. Your dreams become reality!
