Did Mike Rossi (viral marathon dad) cheat his way into Boston?

I don't think Rossi ran the whole race. His times at shorter distances don't line up with his 3:11.

He either cut part of the course (an out and back section, maybe) or just jumped off the course near the start and waited around until the finish and jumped back on the course.

Special thanks to Mike's DJ buddies for upping the post count. But back to the week, back to hammering home the facts. Even if they are not new facts, they will continue to be presented until Mike admits or Barb does the right thing.

Barb - do you even care about your race? You sponsors? Have some passion in your life. Do the right and obvious thing.

Have you contacted any sponsors? Why not send an email to some of the sponsors, to Barb, to Lehigh Valley Health Network executives? The more direct messages sent to them, rather than posting here, has a lot more potential of effecting a change.

I have sent emails to sponsors. All of the sponsors listed on the LVM website. I signed them with my real name and contact information.

No sponsors have responded (sent a few weeks ago). We need more willing to do this.

I doubt you would hear anything back from them, but that doesn't mean they won't consider dropping out. Or at least making a donation without their name attached. What sponsor would want heir name attached to an event that harbors a cheater.

Here it is folks, the solution to the problem.

Mike you confess your cheated. Ken tells us about this money. It is a joint statement released by Mike's "attorney" (I suggest Ken have his attorney review too). Then all is right with the world and the wedding event industry in Philadelphia.

I didn't expect a response. It's not their concern. But the next time they are asked to renew sponsorship, I hope they have a second thought. I honestly felt insincere writing some sponsors as they are very local to the Lehigh Valley. But I did. I'm more of a Mike Rossi Backyard kind of guy. (Looking at you, 6ABC sponsorship).

I really don't think writing the sponsors will have an effect. I am strongly opposed to that. This is a marathon that supports a local charity. Do we really want to try to hurt these charities because of one cheater.

There are unfortunately dozens of incompetent RD's. I've run into a few that won't issue even DQ's to even more obvious cheaters than Mike.

I suggest everyone take a step back.

I am of the opinion that Barb's hands are probably tied - she may not be solely to blame for this debacle. She is not as innocent as the principal mentioned in Mike's viral letter--but I doubt she had the authority to issue a DQ unilaterally once this hit the media. The board, or committee, or whatever probably figured the damage was done and didn't want to deal with Mike any more. Despite the waves many have made on their FB page..they can easily ignore that. They probably felt that disqualifying Mike was the path of least resistance (they were wrong).

At this point, there will be no more direct evidence. We can package the photos however we want--the photos won't result in a DQ.

Going forward, they are adding mats. That's probably the best we could hope for after they made the decision not to disqualify Mike.

Participation is not going to decline because of this--and what would we gain if it did? Less money to the charity.

I hope there is some sort of mainstream article showing the Father of the Year's lame attempts at intimidation as well as proclaiming that he did cheat as fact. Ken would likely get caught in the cross-hairs of any such article--but he doesn't seem to care. That would be as good as an actual DQ in my mind. He ran Boston no matter what happens with his Lehigh Valley result.

That's where I stand. I probably won't post again unless there's a real development. So now the trolls can swing the pendulum back from saying I am obsessed to saying that I have been quiet and Mike silenced me. I just don't see the need to get in the middle of the personal battle between members of the Greater Philadelphia area wedding industry that this has become.

If runners choose to not run this race and support this charity, other races' charities will benefit. Why does money from my registration need to go to a charity anyhow? Races are expensive enough and, if I have the money, there's nothing stopping me from donating to a charity without running the actual race.

How do we know that the LVM charities didn't have some sway on the committee that determined Mike Rossi's fate? If they come out publicly and say that Mike Rossi should be DQ'd, I'll be the first to send them a check.

You can't compare Barb McKeever to other race directors who don't issue DQs because other race directors haven't been hit by the backlash and public pressure to DQ a cheater that she has. She's like the race director at Badwater who won't DQ Parvaneh Moayedhi, only Rossi's cheating is even more obvious and has generated more public pressure. Both race directors are cowardly P.O.S in my opinion. Every single day, Barb McKeever wakes up and has the opportunity to somewhat redeem herself and make the right decision and every single day, she chooses to back Mike Rossi instead.

You say that the race using timing mats this year is a win. How so? It's far more likely that somebody's timing chip malfunctions than that they missed every single photo checkpoint at last year's race. If Barb McKeever won't DQ somebody for being absent in all photos, among other evidence, she won't DQ somebody for not registering splits.

By the way, I'd be curious to know whether groups are still contacting the runners who placed in the top-200 to get statements on whether they saw Mike Rossi and to inform them of LVM's policy regarding DQing obvious cheaters.

It is a succinct summation. I think Mike and the trolls have attempted to make this about anything other than his cheating which has had a desired effect at their menial level. That Mike claims to have photos that might prove his innocence but steadfastly refuses to present it to the running community affirms his guilt. What sort of twisted mind sees that as rational thought? What we DID get is the whole running world (plus quite a few others besides) know that MR is a liar, a narcissist and a cheat. If he'd just kept his stupid letter off social media, he'd probably have got away with it - but thanks to his thunderous ego, his reputation is ruined, and his NOT getting DQ'd has helped fuel the outrage. The story lives on.

Overall, I'd say the outcome is pretty good for the overwhelmingly large percentage of the running community who are honest, and this episode has possibly deterred some (but not all) other losers from cheating, too.

Result.
