I stand corrected. I never saw someone lead that early and keep it. Holy cow. She has gained enough finishing speed to hold off Doris’s kick. That was awesome!
Great job by Jane.
Take a look at the 1988 men's Olympic 5000 meter final and you'll find out Jane's tactics are very old.
idk if taylor got the tactic right or if jane just got better. I'm sure she would have thrown in more moves and squeezed her down if she could have
Jane squeezed her down well enough, imo. Kept it steady, simple, and quietly deadly. I had the impression Doris didn't realize she was underwater until it was too late. Throwing in a surge or two midway might've prompted D to take control and change the character of the race.
sorry, i meant in xc. I dont think her tactics were wrong in XC, Doris was just better. She would have squeezed her down then if she could have.

Maybe she could have, or at least shrunk D's margin of victory at XC Nats. From J's interviews, she seems like a dutiful athlete who trusts her coach and would've patiently executed a long squeeze on the grass, employing her miler wheels to max effect...had she been instructed as such.
