That's a little harsh. When has Beamish ever gone to the front to control the pace? He's a true sit and kick. Hocker ran safe on the outside for about 300m and then took control at the front for the next 600m, then Nuguse surged ahead and Hocker was second on the rail for another lap, and then the pack began to surge. He responded but in the end it wasn't enough. He's shown he can win all kinds of ways not just sit and kick. Today it didn't work out but he's still going in 3K. We ask alot of our champions to be perfect and always win.

Since when does the best kick have a caveat like being "fresh"? You either got it or you don't. We're talking about 7:39 and 3:38 races, not exactly lightning quick.

Yeah the copium from Hocker fans is getting annoying. People always want to compare him to Jakob and then don’t understand why there’s backlash when he loses. Jakob gets crucified for not winning regardless of the circumstances, so of course the “best 1500m runner in the world,” “greatest kick of all time,” etc. is going to get grilled for placing 5th in a 3:38 race behind a bunch of guys who are worse than him. He should’ve been good enough to win today even with the 3k in his legs, and he said as much in his interview.

Also calling Cole the Jakob slayer in Tokyo is hysterical. I suppose that title can apply to the other 8 guys who beat him as well! Is Nathan Green the Cole slayer now? Some of you need help.

You guys do realise no one outside US cares about your domestic athletics, especially indoors.

I doubt it even made the sports news in the US.

The issue with this board is they think everyone in the world is obsessed with domestic US running. No one is bar about 20 people who chat on here.

Hocker would prefer to sit and kick. Every race. He began his pro career that way and reluctantly shifted.

Now he uses the same tactics every time until they don't work. Going to the front and dictating tempo for half the race is not a bad plan as long as you don't stall and allow half the field to blow past you and box you in. I imagine Hocker will simply modify a little bit.

Nathan Green is like the antithesis of Jessica Hull. He's got 1s and 2s all over his past performance chart yet somehow nobody views him as a threat. Hull wins perhaps one race per year outside Australia yet somehow she's assumed as certain victor in any race minus Kipyegon.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen has won an international 1500 gold more or less every single year since 2020. In the 1500 he is 6 times national champ, 3 time european indoors champ, 3 times european outdoors champ, indoors world champ (from last year even!) and olympic champ. He has been winning diamond league races in the 1500 every year since 2020.

What do you mean not winning 1500? Again he is the current indoors world champion in the 1500, how can Hocker be the american Jakob if he fail to Q?

It’s befuddling to me how these situations come in to being and it totally speaks to zero foresight and proactive planning.

Green’s 3:50.31 @ Husky was a badass performance…2nd was 2.18 seconds behind. 3rd was as a whopping 5 seconds back.

This shows how difficult it is to double indoor where there isn't rest days. Jakob won double both in European indoors and World indoors and in both instances the races were on consecutive days.

You don't have to be a good tactician if God gets you over the line. But He works in mysterious ways.

Strange to use Jessica Hull to contrast with Nathan Green, when you could have used Cole Hocker (assumed victor, but never wins). But I get your point, and look forward to seeing Nathan Green in more international races.
