I do talk to Ron regularly, and spoke yesterday and he could not be happier for Hobbs. I believe the full transition is a little over 18 months old. Hobbs needs a full time resource and does most of his work at Flagstaff. He has a house there, I think and a few guys pop in for a bit, I think. Ron built a great foundation after seeing Hobbs was an amazingly gifted talent. I believe Hobbs only ran 4:50's-5;00 as a freshman, to 3:34 in 3 years plus with Ron. He was surrounded by a very solid group and flourished quickly. Many talents can level off, before the next real drop kicks in. I don't know, obviously I have been a fan and shill for years, but I never saw him look that good, or make such a confident move , drawing off last 110M. I said to my wife when he came up on Grant's shoulder on back stretch, this is over, she said how do you know? I said, you can see it after a while, there was not a sudden jerk into high gear it was a smooth overpowering move at 26.3 last 200m off a 3:53 1600, very impressive I thought.
Do you know who the athletes are that Hobbs says he has support from? He certainly sounds quite appreciative of his current setup.
Not currently, I meant being around a great veteran like a Nick Willis, when Ben Flanagan was in the group , Morgan Beadlescomb etc. I am sure some of that rubbed off, and Ron , for those that know him, is quite the engaging character and frankly just one of the funniest and entertaining guys I have had the privilege to know.

I left Mason Ferlic off that post, a big oversight on my part.

The "group of guys" he was referring were from Hobbs' post race interview. He said he had a good group of guys that he works with and helped put last summer's disappointment behind him.
Also remember Hobbs is only 22 years old (birthday in March). If he had competed in NCAA, last year would have been equivalent of his first year as a Pro. And the year before he qualified for the Olympics in two events and placed 5th in the 1500m final. He is now reaching physical maturity and strength and has been well coached all along with few injuries and consistent progress. Last year did not go as planned but progress is not always linear. It looks like he has rebounded mentally which may be hardest part. He's also brings intangible fearlessness and is so fun to watch compete.

Thanks for reminding us of this context. Kid has seemingly been around forever, yet is crushing it at only 22. He is younger than Ethan Strand and barely older than Parker Wolfe, who are not slouches by any means.

Apparently one is not allowed to suggest that the sudden rise of American distance athletes to world's best levels - 3 such performances in one week, including Kessler's performance - invites the same conjecture as those in certain other countries.

I’m always surprised with how Grant does in these shorter races as he is like number 6 or 7 all time in the 10k but I guess I shouldn’t be.
Love Hobbs! Love to see him with a win!
Shoes matter especially on a 10k. He's a top 50 all time 10k runner. Still fantastic but let's pump the brakes a bit and stop blatantly ignoring the shoes - makes you look foolish
