Did Mike Rossi (viral marathon dad) cheat his way into Boston?

Exactly. A criminal offense requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt, the civil standard is simply if it's more likely than not that he cheated. They are applying a standard that is higher than what is required to convict a person of murder - that's the problem.

So cheating at a marathon is more serious than murder? That's how stupid the reasoning by VIA is.

It just requires the civil standard. Although even at a criminal standard, the evidence shows beyond a reasonable doubt that he cheated.

The accomplice theory is far fetched. Why get anyone else involved when you can walk across the line no nonchalantly then walk to your car and drive close to the finish. An accomplice would be a lot more believable in a big race with lots of other people and mats because it would blend in, an accomplice stands out in a small race like Lehigh. Any one who has run a decent amount of races gets this.

I also think the accomplice story is unlikely. What is trickier: crossing the starting line with your bib and ducking off the course to return to your car, or having a friend cross the starting line with your bib and then arranging for that friend to get the bib back to you at some point while they are running the marathon AND then you have to safety pin the bib back to your own shirt and jump back on the course at some point.

If you are going to add a witness to your cheating it should make the whole thing logistically easier, not more complex. Otherwise you are just compounding your own risk.

Agree - no need for an accomplice whatsoever. Cross the start mat, ease off the course to retie a shoe lace, walk or limp away from course, remove bib.
