Rowbury over Simpson in Paris

The only thing accurate about your post is that Shannon did say she is in AR shape.

Simpson races with guts every time. Sometimes she comes out on top, sometimes not. Who cares how she dresses. Rowbury is fine I guess, but it's so painfully obvious how safe she plays it in races, tucking in behind Simpson and outkicking her if she can. Remember at USAs 2 years ago when she sat on Huddle in the 5000 and still got outkicked? Also I'm pretty sure she only has 1 WC medal instead of 2.

Simpson is not a one-trick pony. Though, like Shannon, she mainly runs the 1500 (as that IS her event, are you mad that Coburn mainly runs steeples on the DL circuit?) she has a USA 5000 title to her name (same year she scored 1500 WC silver), she's crushed Rowbury in several DL 3000s, and, lest you forget, owned the steeple AR before her own training partner took it. The only counterpoint is that Rowbury usually does a full indoor season, which Simpson has not done recently, although she does own multiple US indoor titles from earlier years.

It's just that as a spectator, Simpson is more fun to watch--she takes charge in races, is more dynamic, more entertaining. That's how I see it at least. Shannon's strategy works well in faster, rabbited races, which is what brought the AR and that was cool. Jenny's always raced her competitors and not so much the clock, which to a spectator, is way more fun.

Well then why does Simpson lead the lifetime head to head 19 to 8 at 1500 and 28 to 15 at all distances? That would make zero sense since according to your logic Rowbury has the best PRs. If Rowbury has superior fitness based on PRs and better tactics, she should be dominating the head to head and yet the opposite is true.

I second this. Rowbury races scared, lets Jenny do all the work and tries to weasel by her at the end. It is the reason why Jenny has a WC Gold Medal and an Olympic Bronze and Rowbury does not. I had a guy in high school that raced me the same way (sit on my shoulder and kick by me at the end), and it worked for him right up until the state championship meet when I kicked early and he had nothing left at the end. I won the one that mattered, and so did Jenny.

A huge chuck of those wins came in both 2011(recovering from injury, barely even made the WC team) and 2013(last year with Cook, transitioning to Salazar). The two most off years of her career by far. Comparing their racing skills only makes sense when looking at periods when they were in similar fitness. Rowbury didn't even make the WC final in 2011 and you want to use those wins as proof of Simpson's superior tactics?....

That's weak. Jenny was injured in 2012 and changed coaches as well - not making the Olympic final. So let's look at head-to-head by year.

So give Rowbury 2011 and 2013 when she was injured, and give Jenny 2012 - the year they raced the most. Throw out 2007 when Jenny was a sophomore at CU. Simpson still wins every year in head-to-head except 2012 and a tie in 2010.

Sure, they are both winners but they are 2 - 2 when both are under 4. Shannon has never run sub-4 when Jenny was not in the race.

Jenny ran sub-4 twice with no Shannon in the race. And Jenny ran sub-4 once when Shannon ran slower than 4 (Pre 2009).

Wasn't everyone comparing head to head match ups in this thread?

SR = 2 (2015 & 2016)
