Brojas, you have seriously let us down if you don't publish your article. Maybe you're getting everything cleared through attorneys, we don't know. But you've stated you have an article, and promised it. Your credibility is at stake. At the very least you need to indicate why you decided not to publish it.

People new to this thread. Everything has been vetted herein, the photos have been analyzed, past history has been considered, the ease with which it would have been to cheat at LVM, the apparent narcissism of the cheater, his reaction to the accusations, as well as statistical probability. Those of you supporting him are either trolls, friends, or someone who helped him.

Yup, lots of runners here in Vancouver (Canada) have been talking about this for a while now, and with my family and friends in the UK too. Some feel pretty strongly, although I think maybe the strongest reaction from the most people was that he didn't get disqualified from his 3:11 marathon. "That's total b*ll sh*t" being the most commonly uttered phrase with regard to that. We were all convinced it was an easy decision so it was a surprise.

For me, I think he's the big loser here, and perhaps more deserving of pity than anything else. To have the biggest achievement of your life be a total lie - and to involve those closet to you in that lie - his wife and children - that is just a very sad pathetic man. I don't even like to think of the sort of mind that has to do that and live that life? What series of events (or mental illness) brought him there? It's truly awful and almost beyond belief. Who does that? He is wretched human being. It's sad.

So, anger perhaps at the decision not to disqualify him, but pity for the sort of man who would do such a thing and live that sort of life. All he is now is a lie in his wife and children's eyes and not man enough to own it. He has to live that life. Awful. Just awful.

One could reasonably argue that they let us down whether or not they publish an article as a result of their lack of communication (in spite of pleas from this board to at least keep us apprised) after their initial outrage regarding the "alleged" cheating in the LVM, their arbitrary and capricious deletion of posts regarding Mr. Rossi and other alleged cheaters, their selective censoring of speech (in spite of saying a unique feature of the Forums is "...that encourages the free flow of information...", and their capitulation to the demands of Mr. Rossi and his attorney for no good reason (just one example of many is the quote from a famous movie...if anything, I could understand the studio's lawyers perhaps crying copyright issues (yes, its a stretch)).

All this talk about lawyers, defamation, etc. is ridiculous. I can however understand that they may want to have any article vetted before releasing it, although based on the statement to phillymag.com by rojos, he had one ready to be released but didn't want it to be lost over last weekend, so presumably it would have been vetted by now. However (mainly for purposes for comments here and not in a proper article for wide distribution), courts generally allow a lot of latitude for free speech on boards, especially when commenting or interpreting facts or someone's own words from his blogs, tweets, and facebook pages. For those of you who have decided to turn to personal attacks and such, good luck, although it still would be a hard case to prove damages for a number of reasons.

There's a lot of intriguing stuff above. To see whether Mikes performance in the LV race fits with the rest of his racing record, I looked at all of his races (except the 2013 R&R 1/2, and the 2014 T-Day 5k, both of which seem way out of line with his record). To get a sense of his overall performance, I looked at Pace by Distance. I expected that pace would go up with distance, but that there'd be some variation.

If you look at the list below, you'll see that is pretty much what happens. And if you do an "ocular" regression (ie, eyeball it), you'll in see that the relationship is pretty smooth -- there aren't a lot big jumps in pace as distance goes up. There is one exception -- the LV race. No matter how you define "big," LV is a big exception.

I have a real life, and I don't know much about marathons or hobby-joggers. So someone else is going to have to figure how "big" this exception is, and whether there could be an innocent explanation for it.

Distance is in miles. Pace is in minutes/mile.
