Did Mike Rossi (viral marathon dad) cheat his way into Boston?

She deserves to have her name posted here on the Rossi thread a few more times.

Hoping Mike Rossi and the Lehigh Valley Health Network Via Marathon cheating scandal will just blow over? I appreciate the fact that the Marathon is "raising money for charity", but that is no excuse for failing to do the right thing and DQ an obvious cheater! Look at all the people commenting, we aren't teenage kids posting in our parent's basement's, most if not all of us are type A personalities who are successful in life, running, and don't like seeing an obvious cheater get away with cheating. We have seen an obvious breach of integrity and a failure by the LVM to address this, and this failure reflects negatively on you! Trust me, a lot more negative press is headed your way… Step up, and do the right thing.

And she will not be DQ'd either. And if the information I got is correct, she would have had to really plan it out..she apparently hit the mat at the furthest point. But the most damming evidence was a selfie giving away her 20 mile clock time. She would have had to run 13.8 miles at mid 5 minute pace... She ran a 2+ hour half marathon and looked beat..and appeared fresh after her BQ.

I did get a little spooked when I heard she may have lawyered up. But I re-evaluated and know the truth is on my side. The revised article is still up on the blog. I will likely include references to her in my Rossi blog post and will push to have it get some traction. This is a disturbing trend. If 'two instances' is really a trend.

Appreciate your post. Would 'like' it except that I can't - I hate facebook almost as much as I hate cheaters.

I don't believe that 2 instances is much of a trend. When y'all were doing the all that analysis earlier in this thread (I can't claim to have contributed to it) I was actually surprised to see that Mike appeared to be the only cheater at Lehigh last year (if I am remembering correctly).

So, cheaters suck for sure. But there don't appear to be a whole lot of them.

The 'trend' I'm referring to is lawyering up. There are cheaters in practically every marathon. Many are automatically removed from the results before anyone knows. I've found questionable results in just about every race I checked. I have been busy with work and haven't posted any new instances in about a week.. But there is no shortage of cheaters.

I see. OK, I am surprised if there really are cheaters in practically every marathon. I guess I got used to the idea that the phenomenon was relatively rare.

I am not sure that I believe you but you could well be correct. I certainly don't have any real data either way.

Doubler, just out of curiosity, how many of the people that you have posted about that subsequently got DQ'd were from results that were more than a week or two old? I had a conversation with a race director who seemed to think that results got "finalized" and that he wasn't able to DQ people past a certain point. I know in bike races there is a protest period after which results are finalized, but am pretty sure that people/results disappear from running race results all the time without any fan fare.

Not Doubler, but there were several races that DQ'd Kip Litton well after the fact. The Northville Solstice 10K is just one example. In fact, it is a great example of what the LVH Via Race Director should have done.

The email sent to Kip was in Feb, 2011. The race in question was June, 2009. Fortunately, there is no "window" in running races like these.

Here is the complete letter the race director sent to Kip:

He emailed Kip with a summary of the evidence suggesting he didn't run the entire course (missing from photos, a less-than-sweaty shirt crossing the finish line on a hot day, etc.), even said something like "you & I both know how easily the course could be cut", and asked him to counter the cheating claims within a certain period of time or he would be disqualified.

Wish the the LVHN Race Director had just used this as a template. And, either cared at all, or had the courage to act with conviction.

It does seem easier shortly after the marathon. I think I've reported about 5 races that resulted in DQs. - I believe 2 were fairly old. There have been a number where I haven't gotten any response. And some that they are reviewing with no news yet.

I think there is another shoe to drop. A post on the marathon's Facebook page asks if the race is still a Boston qualifying race. 15 hours later there is no response from the race. It is a simple question and is not trolling. I'm wondering if the race is suddenly in hot water with the folks in Boston.

Can you imagine.

I said it weeks ago; if there is no DQ the passion will turn against the race itself.

Someone better take down the camera. I don't have to win the case to get that to happen. It won't even get that far. Watch. As soon as lawyers get involved, the camera will magically disappear.
