I would also kick in $100 for the Brojos' defense.

I really don't think that the Brojos would have a hard time raising legal costs if Rossi is dumb enough to sue them.

So the USATF helped the via marathon with the investigation and despite the certainty that he cheated, there was no DQ. So what was the point of the USATF "assistance"?

You would probably get DQ'd and not allowed in future races. Rossi would turn you in. Still, making the point would be priceless. He would have "run" slower in those conditions but his head-down tell is all I need to see. Way too fresh to have made such a huge PR, he's a cheat and a liar and if he continues to "run" he will cheat again too. Because a cheater's gotta cheat.

BTW, I ran last year and it was ridiculously warm and humid for that time of year. No way he ran 3:11 and looked that comfortable at the finish. He would have looked like a wet mess. I was a mess and only ran half the distance.

The 3:11 has no pictures except start and finish.

Regardless of pictures or not, no one, not one person in that time range remembers seeing him at 5 miles,10, 13, 18, 22, etc... He was not passing people the whole way nor was he being passed. He would have had to run several miles in the presence of some of the same runners. Where are they? Who did he run with? Why would they not come forward and say that they remember him?

Boston...a reality time and race as there are too many mats to deal with. So he's now injured, how convenient.

When he's not injured, he's training 18 miles per week to run a P.R. by how many minutes? What does he run when he's healthy?

Being healthy he should be able to run 3:15 easily on the same course running 30 miles a week...based on his logic.

How will it go down? He'll claim that he's injured "if" he does run another marathon and even then it won't be the same race.

There are not many for sure things in this world, but I've been running long enough to personally believe that it would have been very tough for him to run that time with his body. He seriously looks like a slightly above jogger. In addition, there's not one credible witness or photo or official split to back himself up. His head down, lack of major sweat and/or distress, not boasting about a huge pr, etc...don't know for sure but I'm not buying it.

Like Oscar Miranda, I predict he will not run another marathon again and probably not a half either. Again, if he does it'll be a "fun run" and that he wasn't running for a fast time.

I recall reading Will Cloney (1979 Boston Race Director) stating that if Oscar could have run a 10k at that 1979 Boston Marathon pace, he would have given him his due. A 53 year old breaks 2:20, sets an age group record, and won't run a 10k at marathon race pace???

Predictably, he chose not to run and predictably, I believe, Mr. Rossi will do the same (not including fun runs and supposed injuries). The BIG difference is the information world that we live in today versus Miranda back then. Had he not been so boastful about himself and the letter to the principal, things may not had gotten to this point.

"Mike rossi cheater" brings LRC in as #2 search result on google.

Perhaps we should raise funds for a professional investigator to look into Mikey's race?

4000 posts and I learned something new. That Oscar Miranda story is fascinating. The local papers even had profiles on him before Boston.

I wonder if the fact he never ran again is where Seinfeld got the whole "I choose not to run" thing. I LOVE how they interviewed him and he said he found running BORING. Does LRC have any good threads on Oscar?

I'm willing to bet that you're right. Why would he? He's achieved the pinnacle of distance running, "qualifying" for Boston and completing it! He stuck it to terrorism, showed that he's a true patriot, and no longer has to prove anything to anyone, because he can cover his entire body and car in BAA logos.

I would bet any amount of money that he moves on to Ironman next, stating that marathons are "too easy" for him.

Didn't Mike say he cooperated with the investigation into his results? I am curious why it isn't possible to get his story.

I don't know much about this stuff, but if the marathon is a non-profit, don't they have to prove they are above board in their organization?

Also, if USATF provided assistance, wouldn't they be accountable via public record law or freedom of information if they receive any kind of government support?

The Erie Marathon is the same day and gets great reviews. It actually got rid of its 13.1 this year to accommodate more Boston aspirants.
