A white collar job is actually ideal for an elite runner. Gives your mind a break from thinking too much about running but is still not physically strenuous enough to take away from training.

You just have to be disciplined enough to get up at 5 in the morning to run.
I was @ 13.1 mark, it was a race for the ages..Weather was 34f @ start, 39f@ finish..To all who could not be there, what a gem of a race...7 americans under 2:10...
Seriously impressed by Natasha Wodak -- she did exactly what she came there to do. Negative split by 1 second to take #2 all-time Canadian women's time and I'm assuming cinch an Olympic spot. First marathon in 7 years.

Usually people in med school with a history of being multiple time all-americans in college have good enough discipline to wake up an hour early.
A 2:11.29 with a poop break has to be one of the fastest poop marathons ever.

To my knowledge I believe it is the new #1 in the US.
The previous record was held by Frank Shorter with a time of 2:12:03 at the Lake Biwa Marathon back in 1973.

Is LRC done trashing on American men's distance running?? It's been obvious that guys were plenty capable of these times but usually opt for tougher marathons versus faster/flatter courses. Seven under-2:10. Enough said. You line up guys on a fast course with good weather and you find out what people are really capable of. US marathoning has gotten better since 2012. I like the Trials being run on a fast/flat course like in 2012 so we get the fast times. 2016 was not it. This was a mini Trials-type event with a lot of our best, with pacers, with a fast course, with good weather, etc. Also some guys skipped out on this one. We're in a good spot.
Listen, I know many here hate it, but Boston Marathon does not count towards record purposes due to its point-to-point downhill nature. I can upload the full Top 10 if you are interested, but then all the purists will freak out about Ryan Hall's 2:04:58 at Boston.

And guess what? All these guys had these shoes for Chicago last year and didn't run like this. A clear progression is happening, it is an exciting moment and sign for the sport domestically that real fans are fully celebrating today. Rosario and Cox, much as the bitterman militia on this board may hate them, pioneered something good that hopefully can be replicated in future years. Letsrun certainly isn't building anything to progress the sport.
Put some respect of my man Ben P, he was training in middle of nowhere Canada all summer, still young and full of potential.
