The only misstep I've seen in her career was that premature celebration at World's.

If Huddle wins NYC it's kind of like pulling a Rupp. It's a win, at an major marathon. That's a tougher win than Rupp's but not quite as good as the Rupp's second marathon (bronze in the olympics is better than winning NYC).

I'm tired of the disrespect shown for Rupp on these boards. Likely Rupp will be several miles ahead of Huddle in a marathon. Stop trying to compare the two runners, Even though both are full-time professional athletes, Rupp is at a completely different level of performance for now.

I'm a believer that Rupp would've done what his coach and mentor Alberto Salazar did - win his debut at NYC in a fast time.

Anything can happen in a marathon, but Molly is probably in 2:22 shape, which will be more like a 2:25 at NYC. It will be very tough to beat Mary Keitany. She could get the fastest debut by a US woman and make quite a bit of money. If Molly places 2nd, she wins $60,000, plus $25,000 for 1st American, plus a $15,000 bonus for sub-2:26, for $100,000 total, plus appearance money.

Sorry, I see quite the opposite. The workout shows that she's in horrible marathon shape. It is a good 10k workout, which indicates a decent 10k/hm shape, but that also means that she has too many muscle fast-twitch fibers for the marathon.

I'd be surprised if she could run a 230, let alone 225. Marathon is not a distance you can mess around with without serious training.

Kurt ran 3:38-3:39 after college, in addition to a smattering of other strong performances.

He was - and is - a massive talent. This is a fellow who ran right around 13:30 for 5000m as a true freshman at Notre Dame, for god's sake. Like many other great lights before him, though, he was felled by the injury bug.

Observe his running style in the video: he's got a fairly loping stride combined with an extreme forefoot strike. From what I gather, this has contributed to some nasty, chronic achilles issues over the years.

Bottom line: yes, Kurt could have kept up with Molly for the full workout, but he probably wouldn't have been able to run again for several weeks thereafter. He recognizes that he can better support her if he stays reasonably healthy.

He's a good man and a supportive husband.

This workout appears to make the same mistake that most college coaches make when trying to set up a marathon program.

It is not just more mileage and a little longer reps and a monster long run on Sunday.

Marathon specific work is the most important factor. I don't know what Molly did for the last 3 months but this workout does nothing to indicate marathon success.

Kim Smith struggled with the marathon under Coach Treacy. Amy Cragg has improved drastically since leaving his marathon program.

Molly is super talented but a major blow up is fairly predictable.

You're saying she's messing around and not doing serious training based on one workout...because she was too fast in that workout?

You can't arrive at this conclusion based on one workout, and if you don't do any 10k pace work in your marathon buildup then you are doing it wrong.

But it's too close to the marathon, and apparently she's more prepared for the 10k/HM, rather than the marathon, otherwise she should have been hard pressed to even finish 5 reps of the workout with just 2 minutes rest, so I stand by my statement that she won't touch 225, and would have a hard time breaking 230. Just let's wait and see, so to speak.
