When I browse on Wifi and change to mobile to write a forum post (because my home IP is banned for no reason and I can't be bothered to beg for forgiveness for the 5th time), my comment somehow gets posted in a completely different thread.
So sorry to hear this. What a giant in the running world he was, an absolute legend. And as someone said, such a good storyteller. His legacy will live on for a long, long time.
Ok, maybe this is just a coincidence but the owners of Runners (Joggers)World announced two months ago that it was buying Running Times. In the most recent issue of Running Times there is an interesting article about how much...
\"Running may temporarily relieve our stress, but it\'s sure to take its toll on our knees and hips and the fatigue of constant training can have a depressant effect.Yet imagine the runner, alone on the road, his footfalls on...
all my PR's (3000m to 1/2 marathon) have been run during just mileage and tempo/threshold type workouts, I ran a 3000m PR last winter and never even came close to training at that pace for 4 months beforewhen I start doing in...

i don't follow the plans exactly. i take his philosophies and apply them to a similar plan that he uses. I haven't improved after 18 weeks whatsoever(as race times suggest). What should i try now?

I have started running with my GF in the mornings in a park for about 30 minutes. I have no idea how slow it is for sure but I'm guessing about 10 minute pace. My GF really likes it that I go with her, and I enjoy it too...

RIP Jack Daniels. I didn't become a competitive runner until my mid 40's but leaned into two of the components he said leads to success: 1. Motivation & 2. Opportunity (living next to a track/numerous uninterupted running trails, ability to train for months at altitude & loads of opportunities to race at some of the best races in the USA at sea level near my home). His VDOT calculator, emphasis on pronounced training phases, and workouts lead me to routinely finish at/near the top of my age group at very competetive races, most recently 3rd place out of 891.
I loved that Jack had a photo of him with his family in front of the Tetons in the Running Formula book... that's my favorite training ground (where I've spent many months training over the years).
I had the opportunity to tread much of the same ground as Jack over the years, some by chance and some by design. He was one of the most genuine, humble, and caring people that I have met while involved in this crazy sport.
While I haven’t seen nor spoken to Jack in many years, the sense of loss is real. That he’s not still out there, somewhere, dispensing enthusiastic advice to runners regardless of their PRs is very sad. The world needs more Jack.
I've used his plans for decades now and own every edition of his Running Formula books. As others have noted I well remember his posts on LRC years ago. As we've seen this site degenerate (I stop by only once or twice a year, usually in disgust) I consider Jack way too good a human being to ever have exposed himself to the toxic poison corralled and promoted by LRC.
Jack should still be with us and LRC should be on the waste heap of awful historical hell sites.
