I have started running with my GF in the mornings in a park for about 30 minutes. I have no idea how slow it is for sure but I'm guessing about 10 minute pace. My GF really likes it that I go with her, and I enjoy it too but I'm wondering if it's not so great for my running.
I'm a middle distance runner with normally a more long, loping stride. I've had to shorten my stride to a shuffle, and keep a quick cadence. Doing it this way seems to keep impact stresses from jogging to a minimum and I feel quite pleasant afterwards. So I doubt it will injure me.
Unfortunately, it's no where close to my racing form or even my normal form in training runs (usually no slower than about 6:30 pace--but I'm a low mileage guy about 30 miles per week and don't run farther than 6 miles). So am I getting ANY benefits at all from the jogging? Even if the form is different could I be getting some "practice" neuromuscularly like with the quads still contracting at impact?
I was thinking about increasing my mileage. Perhaps the jogging can at least help transition me to getting used to more time on my feet?
I just don't want to think this is a complete waste of time (other than spending time with the GF)
