Unless a runner, and even then, hard to drum up interest about your running, how much, how far, or how fast. It is a relatively boring spectator sport (road and xc), you spend forever warming up, they may see you for 5 seconds at the start, then wait around and see you finish the last 5 to 10 seconds. It may be worth asking the significant other on some cool weekend trip. You would need to make it fun and exciting with other stuff besides your race. The highschool/college years from family is another matter, but personally I never thought about my parents or others much during my races back then. That's not why I was out there. I spare my wife coming out to watch me race. She complains I ignore her. Which I guess I do until I'm finished!
