I don't think it's dumb. There are 9 women who have broken 2:20 in this field and that doesn't count Obiri or Lokedi. If they all run their best, no American finishes in the top 5.

Running the tangents is one of those things you learn in 8th-grade cross country and every pro seems to forget over the years and years of track running. Makes a difference over 26.2, no doubt about it.
He ran 18 which is almost another 50 feet uphill in 4:58 and 19 in 4:54 (that's downhill). 20 and 21 are big uphills. 21 is the most uphill of any mile and then after that it's all downhilll.
The Mile 17 > 18 split is the real gut check for elites. 16>17 is long (1/2 mile hill) but it is not particularly steep and it's the first of the hills that follows a half mile steep drop. 17>18 is a quarter mile long hill that is steep and really the gut check for all who run today. If he holds a hard line up that, then he maybe can try to catch Lemma (assuming Lemma hits a wall).
