As you can see, they were firing at almost a photo per second. This is why we have so many bridge photos, and why you can see everyone along this route

You are in Lance Armstrong land right now...
Lance Armstrong cheated and justified it because everyone else cheated by the same methods.
Could you imagine how annoying it would be for everyone if this cheating method caught on? Good lord, people already hate us enough due to the race day road closures. Now they have to deal with everyone clogging up traffic as they drive to the finish line?

I've mentioned the low weekly mileage before but a lot of people seem to think 50 mpw works just fine. This is true for some runners, but certainly not most, and certainly not this guy. I'll add that the truth is his alleged BQ came after only 19 months of total running. He only started running the spring of 2013- after the Boston Marathon bombing. He hadn't been running at all before that!!! So it's incredibly unlikely that without having seasoned legs and joints he could have pulled off the 3:11. It takes a lot more running and physical experience (fueling and other training adaptations) to be able to do that in what was for all intents his first marathon.
I went from 284 pounds in 2008 (and clearly not running) to a 19:10 5k, 39:20 10k, and 1:27 half in two years. Nearing 40 years of age. I don't think a 3:11 marathon would have been too hard to do at that point (but alas, I didn't like the idea of a marathon).
Just off my totally anecdotal evidence, I don't think that this guy running a 3:11 after 18 months is totally unbelievable in and of itself. It's the lack of any supporting races that show he didn't have the necessary training or ability.

Do you have a link to this?
PS..nice work.

i think to make this better you need to go to 7:54 because just as you say 5 minutes behind, need 5 forward

exactly in theory he could have been ahead and then stopped,
you have to eliminate the theoretical here not just the probable
Raysism,
Way to go!
I did this more as: Here is person A and behind is person B. Here is B and behind are C, D, and E. Here are C, D, and E and here comes F and G. And so forth.
That satisfied me. But to have time stamps to show the number of photos per minute adds weight to it.
Combine that (not that you have to!) with his behavior in other races when he sees the camera, always mugging and giving a hand gesture, and you know he was never there.
Still the same conclusion but an additional way to present the evidence.

You are going down you cheater scum!
In reverse order:
7:56 -- 34 photos
7:55 -- 21 photos
7:54 -- 17 photos (includes 2:47 finisher)
Before that, it's just the leaders. Even when there was almost no one to photograph, he was taking a photo every 2 or 3 seconds.
Please do this. It would be a fun way to identify fellow letsrun forum users at local races.

That would be an awesome shirt to have, especially if some sort of LRC-related humor was printed on the back.
This photo of the shirt design is actually more than good enough to create a replica by simply creating a vector outline and re-submitting the new high-res image to whatever shirt-making company desired (cafepress, etc). It would look exactly the same.
I could do this, if enough people are interested. I feel bad for being one of the grouchy people that slammed the brojos' Rupp-certified shirt. :)

Then again, I guess cheating wasn't such a problem until recently either.
Is cheating really a problem now?
Dude that is definitely Mike.. I know just by the chronic parenthesis abuse. Mike, LRC doesn't leave any stone unturned buddy. We're gonna keep you sweating until the final hour buddy (real sweat).
Thanks for the links SaraB...another great addition...looks like I'm gonna cut today's run short so I can try to stop falling further behind my reading of this thread...

Car pool? Public transit?
Quite the emotional response. These questions that prove guilt really got you fired up. I'll add some more questions to the list once I get some work done. Is that you Mike? I hope you get asked these questions on live TV. Cant wait for the silent awkward pauses!

Questions for Mike wrote:Dear Mike,
By now you know we have already proven that there is a point on the course that the photographer captured everybody in a way that you couldn't have possibly been on the course. There are no time gaps and there are no secret blurry images of you in the bushes.
1.Please explain why/how it is possible that the photographer was able to capture everybody in an order where you can see the next runner in the background but you aren't there.
2. How often did you run marathon pace before Via?
3. Did you do tempo runs at 7:19 and if so, why didn't you take the opportunity to run your HM at MP leading into Via?
4.. What was your longest pre race tempo at MP?
4. Did you do any training at faster than MP and if so what kinds and how often?
5. You knew that a 3:11 was way faster than your BQ, what made you decide to run 3:11 pace which would result in massive risk of failure?
6. Did you talk to a single runner along the course and if so when?
7.If you were using your chronograph on your GPS watch what was your relative splits?
8. If you didn't use GPS or take splits how did you determine the pace being run was appropriate for an entire marathon?
9. If you knew 7:19 was going to be your Marathon pace, why didn't you run your HM leading into at MP?
10. Where were you getting your training guidance from and can we contact them?
11. Do you have any family members/friends that were along the course that can verify that you ran?
I'll have more questions later, but these will do for now.
Dude even if I hadn't cheated and was being accused of cheating I wouldn't answer all these questions. Its none of your business and he doesn't owe anything to you. I don't know the guy, and he probably cheated based on evidence, but he still certainly doesn't have to explain himself to any of you.
Honestly I've read just enough of this thread to realize three facts:
1) This dude probably cheated
2) Most of you have sad lives
3) Its not possible to cheat like this in a competitive marathon situation and this guy cheating for a 3:11 has no real bearing on any of your lives or "the integrity of the sport." Even his cheat time is slow so who cares.
Maybe the Philadelphia Eagles and the NFL can also sue Mike Rossi for using the Eagles logo on that shirt and violating trademark laws!

Interesting that the photographer still took blank photos at regular intervals. Maybe this was scheduled ahead of time to identify cheaters in lieu of timing mats. Let's hope so....
Great work!
