Did Mike Rossi (viral marathon dad) cheat his way into Boston?

I'll admit to a morbid fascination with this thread. I want this guy busted. I just struggled through a BQ after a 13 year absence from the marathon and it irks me that this guy appears to have stolen his BQ and then grossly oversold the virtues of the process.

Even with the perfect smoking gun picture of him cheating (and ask yourself what would such photo look like? Even the famous iphone photo by David Green from Boston ’13 was not incriminating, it only helped with ID process ) we’ll never get a confession from Rossi. Getting him DQ'd is a realistic goal but he’s still got his coveted medal and he’s done lasting damage to the credibility of real BQs. The admirable detective work documented on this thread should be enough for that DQ. With some effort I’ll have to tune out of this thread now…this pathetic faker and his web of lies is not worth the time it takes to read one more entry.

I’m going for a run a lunch today and I’m so looking forward to it…I’m sure Rossi has forever lost the ability to really enjoy a simple run like that. Maybe that is punishment enough?

Am I right in that he's backtracked on the GPS file claim? I feel his pain.

Did people miss this? If he didn't make it to the first relay exchange as previously speculated he had to leave the course somewhere. The closer it was to the start the more likely there is some spectator who took a picture that has him ducking out.

I'm actually optimistic that someone will show up with a video of the start. If he did leave the course, I think all signs point to him leaving immediately after crossing the starting mat. So you just need a family member or press guy who ran video for 45 or 60 seconds at the start. If you don't see Rossi bolting from the line, you can pretty much figure out what happened next.

Who was the DJ at those weddings?

I have been going through all the photos from the first photo point and have yet to find Rossi so I suspect he did leave the course before the first relay exhange.

I agree... just would be interesting if he knew/coordinated with someone that he knew to run a certain time.

The explanation is very simple and has nothing to do with cutting courses. The running culture was very, very different. Back then lots of people trained reasonably hard and very few raced to get a participant medal (which didn't exist). Today lots of people "race" to get a participant medal and only a relative handful train hard.

Dude even if I hadn't cheated and was being accused of cheating I wouldn't answer all these questions. Its none of your business and he doesn't owe anything to you. I don't know the guy, and he probably cheated based on evidence, but he still certainly doesn't have to explain himself to any of you.

Honestly I've read just enough of this thread to realize three facts:

1) This dude probably cheated

2) Most of you have sad lives

3) Its not possible to cheat like this in a competitive marathon situation and this guy cheating for a 3:11 has no real bearing on any of your lives or "the integrity of the sport." Even his cheat time is slow so who cares.

No one is missing it -- we've suspected that the exit point was near the start for a while now.

And it's a point-to-point course.

Don't get me wrong! I'm thirsting for some schadenfreude as much as the next gal. I want to wipe the smarm right of his face and see some actual humility and an acknowledgement of what raging dick moves this and his denial are. I'm just coming to terms with the possibility he "gets away with it." And I feel pretty good knowing he can't.

I think this means that Mr. Rossi and Mr. Forum Troll at the very least have the same cable provider from the same region.
