No idea, but my guess is that interest in BQing (and possibly cheating) has spiked since the bombing.
Correct. Last year several a-holes ran @ Boston with forged bibs. They were detected once the official race photographer posted images. However I never heard if the BAA ever successfully tracked down the identities of the frauds.

Should be able to calculate time off that as well?
No, time is independent of calories for the most part. Basically calories burned is mass moved x distance. Speed doesn't matter. It does to a point when wind resistance is at play but on a treadmill it shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks for the lesson.
Not sure if this news report has been posted yet.
Anyone look up if there's a connection between the guy he 'finished' closely behind and himself? Mike Rossi is a wedding DJ and a quick google of Douglas Rendall shows he recently had a wedding and they are both located in PA.
Long shot but any chance they know each other/planned this?

You know, the "NO WE CAN'T FEEL COMPASSION FOR THE GUY BECAUSE HE IS A PRICK AND SHOULD BE PUNISHED. WHAT PART OF THAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS..." crowd.
Like I said, you appear to be an adult. Many cannot handle an adult perspective.
It's very likely he will be DQ'd, ideally something happens at BAA too. That's enough.
I'm not sure where you are going with this as it is taking a false statement and then taking it to an extreme.
Compassion? Yeah, sure. Lots of things to feel compassionate about in the story. But, it seems like you and maybe one other are trying to soften the public impact taking this compassion angle. It only enables this kind of personality.
Don't cheat to get into Boston (of all races to cheat into) and no one will have this problem again. It's pretty simple. Crazy, right?

There's no need to drag anyone else into it. There's nothing about this race that would require a partner to cheat. It's really as simple as walking off the course, getting in a car and driving, and then walking back on.

Really? I always thought that when I was running at 5 minute pace I was burning way more calories than when I was running at 7:30 pace. Honestly I don't care about calories that much, but I'm curious - RunningPhreak, could you elaborate, or could someone else chime in on this?
(I get that it is basically mass x distance, but I thought that muscles were also less efficient at higher intensities or something, so that more energy gets wasted as heat. And I thought this could be pretty significant when pace varies by a lot, like I dunno, a 50% or 100% change when going from 7 minute pace to 4:30 pace.)
Whoa... did the LRMB have access to all 19,000 photos?

I always thought this as well, but I do not believe treadmills go into that much calculations when figuring "Calories Burned".
I think all the pics were posted, bc I remember seeing 107 pages when 180 pics were on each page. This would equal 19,260 pictures.

Listening to this again, it's clear that this 3:55 marathoner's family was taking a lot of video of him. I'm not in a position to ask him what video he has in the comments, so hopefully someone here can.

I've always questioned those old timers who claim that "back in the day" runners were so much faster - everyone ran under 3 hrs, blah, blah, blah.
So easy to cut a course back then with no chips or photographers.
Wonder how many of those races had people cutting the course.
You're so far off here you are probably in the wrong galaxy dude.
The elites today are faster than the elites of yesteryear. But the masses of yesteryear were WAY faster than the masses of today.
The explanation is very simple and has nothing to do with cutting courses. The running culture was very, very different. Back then lots of people trained reasonably hard and very few raced to get a participant medal (which didn't exist). Today lots of people "race" to get a participant medal and only a relative handful train hard.
Can't remember if we've seen this one:

This guy must have more starting line photos stored somewhere.
Didn't Rossi start like 30 seconds or so after the gun? I think I remember us finding that. So maybe look at a different time range? If you already accounted for that I apologize.

Lshek wrote:For those who checked the photos: see if every runner who finished in 3:00-3:20 (these are the people he would have been running w in the race) were all captured at the very first photo stop (4miles in)?
Pretty damning if he's the only one not captured so early in the race. Can't see how the photographer would have missed too many people so soon in the race - smallest spread of runners plus easy to capture the fastest people.
Okay, I've now officially spent way too much time on this, but I think there’s a spot where you can see almost everyone go by in order. It looks like it is a couple miles after the start along a fairly broad road. The series begins with picture 5-470 if you look at the entire set. I've been able to find everyone who finished within 10 places Rossi, either in the foreground or somewhere in the background. I’m pretty sure about everyone with one exception. The picture for each of the 20 finishers is as follows:
1444 6-535
1163 6-510
1185 6-581
1388 6-595
1603 6-584
2550 6-574
2544 6-574
1242 6-577
2531 6-550
1823 6-544
2161 ROSSI
1997 6-597
2028 6-563
1711 6-567
1950 6-594
2233 7-602
1880 6-528
2372 6-544
2515 6-532
1933 6-570
1255 6-560
The one questionable one is 2515. You cannot see his face, shirt or hat in picture 6-532. But I think that is his arm on the right edge of the picture. He was wearing a sleeveless shirt, which fits the picture, and you can see in an earlier photo that he was tucked in with the group that is in that picture. You can see the group in pictures 12-1160 to 12-1163, and runner 2515 is clearly visible in 12-1162. All of this is early in the race. Everyone is there. And Rossi is already gone. (And even if you don’t think that that is 2515 in picture 6-532, then at least everyone within 10 spots of Rossi got photographed in one of the first two spots along the course.).

Don't think anyone else had re-posted it yet. Here's the spreadsheet Rojo set up w/ photo tracking, etc.:

That would be an awesome shirt to have, especially if some sort of LRC-related humor was printed on the back.
This photo of the shirt design is actually more than good enough to create a replica by simply creating a vector outline and re-submitting the new high-res image to whatever shirt-making company desired (cafepress, etc). It would look exactly the same.
I could do this, if enough people are interested. I feel bad for being one of the grouchy people that slammed the brojos' Rupp-certified shirt. :)

That is pretty funny!!
Am only up to page 30 for the spreadsheet but need a break. Will continue in a bit. He has gone completely silent on facebook now (Possibly cos I told people to ignore him until he answers questions. I'm sure he's still reading it though so i say hi to him occasionally. Hi Mike!!)
