400m is about to set off with a couple top guys. Missing Kirani and LaShawn Merrit but we have Van Niekirk, Taplin, Makwala, and McQuay.

In the men's 8 about 5 guys were in contention the final 100 including McBride.

But this isn't the NCAAs. McBride started to move up and I thought he might take it but everyone had a little something to just hang on.

Kipketer got the win in 1:44.47 just ahead of Kszczot. McBride was 4th.

Kipketer's form is so bad I have a tough time seeing him winning Worlds although he won here and the Kenyan Trials

Has Makwala ever done anything of significance outside of that one place at altitude in France?

Kipketer runs like Cheserek. Both have strong finishes, even with flailing arms.

He ran 44.11 to make the final at Worlds where he got 5th.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the 1500. Our man on the ground fears that the 'witch hunt' (his words) against foreign managers might hurt the kenyans.

Here is what he wrote me:

One 800 meter girl that he coaches, Eglay, was in tears last night at Kerio view because she has no idea what she should be doing for the upcoming diamond league races."

He thinks it's a disgrace that Canova who coaches most of these guys pro bono has been forced to leave the country.

No races so far have been fast. Will the 1500m change that. I think it's going to be around 3:27 low for Kiprop. I think Makh, Iguider, Mo, and the rest will follow in 3:28 high.
