wasn't Cain doing track deep into the summer before last cross season? (worlds youth or juniors on the track). she probably did track all summer, took some time off, started training for cross in mid-sept?

We are not talking about track. We are talking about xc. You're the one who is being disingenuous and deceptive.
And Cain has had perfect pacers in her track races. Baxter has been soloing all of her runs. What happened when Cain didn't have a rabbit? Oh yeah she ran most of an indoor race at 5+ minute pace.
At this point, I figure Alexa to be 5 seconds behind Mary for the mile, but 0 seconds behind in rough 5K XC. We'll never really know, since Mary is unlikely to run XC ever again.
Cain ran NXN last year despite not competing for her high school and being coached by Salazar.
If Cain and AlSal wanted to win NXN I think she would have got it. Cain is a sit and kick type runner so I don't the she would win by much. She would just go for the win.
Lets face it, Baxter did all the work, front running most of the race trying to break the others. It was just not her day. Maybe with differnt traning Baxter could be a great 10K or maybe steeple runner.
The course was not Cain Certified by Saladbar so it is a moot argument. Go back to your milk bottles fan boys.

True, but she was still eligible to compete for her high school team because she had not yet crossed the threshold of racing collegiate competition.

Steeple??? Really??? Baxter has no speed. If she's ever going to run as a pro, it will be as a marathoner, but my best guess is that Baxter's elite running career will end after college. That's nothing against Baxter - I think she's a good kid and a very good runner - but I just don't think she has the raw talent to be a successful pro as anything other than a borderline elite marathoner. Basically, any American woman who can break 2:30 for the marathon can make a living as a marathoner, and I could see Baxter being able to do that, but that's the only thing I could see her being able to do as a runner that someone will pay her for after college.
Low 16's, so a solid 30+ seconds. 16:50 is a tempo run for Cain.

Cain competed for Bronxville H.S. on Sept 22 and Oct 13 last year. In each of these two meets she competed with six Bronxville H.S. teammates.

Last year Cain ran the world "A" standard in the 800 and 1500; she also ran the US "A"standard in the 5000 (joining only Martinez in meeting those three standards--both Moser and Rowbury did not meet the world standard in the 800). She made the finals in the World Championship, as a high school junior. Why in the world would anyone care how she might do in a high school cross country race? What universe are you living in in which you'd want to compare a world class runner with girls competing in a high school championship?
Efraimson beat NCAA's #2 XC runner recently and got a medal at world junior champs in the 1500. Baxter had never lost a race before this weekend, including against Cain. Cain has made remarkable improvements, including running some great performances on the national and international scene, so I would think that she would've won this time out and probably would've annihilated the others in the kick, but it's hard to say that definitively.

Alexa has not yet run her jr track season....I expect her to go sub 4:10 in the 1500. Maybe 4:05. Does anyone know what Mary Cain ran as a sophomore for 8 and 15?
Mary split a 2:03.74 in the 800 as a freshman, I'd hardly say her times have dropped precipitously since teaming up with AlSal.
Mary would likely have won the race given the fast conditions. It suited her well, but you can only face against the people who show up, so hats off to the the Alexa, Baxter, and Cranny for putting on a great show.
Baxter's slight heel striking could be her...Achilles heel when it comes to kicking for the win.
Cain wouldn't have won. Everyone is talking about the speed Cain has when sophomore year Cain ran 4:17 In the 1500. Effraimson ran 4:16 last year as a sophomore. Obviously effraimson would be able to hold off Cain right now especially since Al Sal has Cain running only 5 miles a day

Missy Franklin, OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST, came back and continued to swim with her high school team her senior year. Apparently the universe we all are living in is that universe.

Probably would have finished fourth. If she couldn't beat Baxter in the past no way she was winning this race. Track is her specialty and future.

Cain ran 4:17.84 as a freshman, not sophomore. She ran 4:11.01 in her sophomore year. Efraimson is an extraordinary talent and I would not rule out her beating Cain within a year or two in track. (Cain was a dilettante x/c athlete.) Also, I am not sure Cain has more top end speed than Efraimson.
Nevertheless, hypothetical races are just talk and Cain will no longer run cross, so why should anyone bring it up?
