Instead of a beer mile, I did the "somehow still not quite right 24 hours after a few margaritas on the 4th" 1500 meter race on the evening of the 5th. One problem with aging for me is that recovery from all kinds of things is slower, including the above mentioned imbibing. Muscles felt like bags of sand. Extreme thirst. Not much fun at all. Recovered enough from that race to do:Saturday: 2x(4x200 at a fast goal 800 pace with 1 minute rest). First 200 felt like a jog, last felt very hard. Hmmm...just the like the 800 itself.

Boilermaker went pretty well, not an A+ effort but about what I expected from a pretty lean cardio base for racing a 15k. Hit the 10k in 37:18, right on target, but was slowed by a couple of hills and finished just below 56:30. Beat my 2006 time by nearly 2 minutes and got me into the top 200 - 15th master compared to 32nd last year.
I see that tracklover and Spikez have registered for Orono - anyone else?
You're not getting older, you're getting better! Congratulations! And a great job by Patty M. in the Peachtree as well.
Yea, esp. since she ran it slightly injured! "Ran it on one leg" she said.
Nice Job nyloco at the Boilermaker.
I've got a group of 4 driving up to Orono together from Boston, including my coach, which is nice for me. Of course one of the 4 will move me down one place in both my events (800/1500) as he's been killing me at the local meets. Same age group, same events, from the same area. Its not even at all close. Keeps me very humble indeed.
Have a good week all,
