Remembering 2y ago when people didn't believe that science/altitude conversions meant one of Nico's NAU dome miles was worth a converted 3:52. Or that he could break 1:50 for 800 lol.
Now he's kicked a 26s last 200 in a 12:45 DL 5k win, & a closed a 3:48i mile in 55.
To be fair to the NCAA conversion detractors it actually gave him a time one one-hundredth faster than the one he ran today
How upset is Hobbs after last week. He got served.
I’m not sure if it was anything significant, but I did see Hobbs kinda limping around the track after the race. Looked like maybe a cramp or strain of some sort.
Side note on Nico Young - he's now run sub 3.50 for the mile, sub 13 for the 5k, and sub 27 for the 10k. Could be wrong but I think the only other runners who have done that are Yomif Kejelcha and Grant Fischer

That's why Hoey was unquestionably more impressive than Kessler last week. I posted it at the time. Hoey has a record at a standard distance that is standalone significant. Kessler needed to build on that race or it steadily diminshes in significance.
He won't be eligible for any more U20 records. You have to be under 20 for the entire calendar year.
What? Is this true? If I’m 19 when I break a world record in February, it doesn’t count because I’ll be 20 in November?
what a ridiculous rule. Is the kid under 20 or not?
Yes, it's true. This has happened multiple times before, Kipchoge ran a 5k in 12:46 at 19 but it didn't count as an U20 world record because he was turning 20 in November that year.
I think the justification is so athletes don't change classifications from Junior to Senior within the same year. I think that's kind of silly though, as this doesn't apply to the masters records, they're either 40 or not. If nothing else, it seems really unfair for athletes who just happen to be born towards the end of the year.
Great race by Myers. Bit of a bommer that he barely misses out on a PB (0.09s slower than his time last year) But overall a good performance.
Does anyone know if Myers, Kessler and/or Nuguse is confirmed for the World Indoors later this season?
And does anyone think Myers will break or try to go after anymore agerecords before his 20th birthday (June 9th) ?
Don’t know on Myers. Nuguse very interested, Kessler seemed inclined too. It’s setting up to be a stacked World Indoors with Kerr, Hocker, Nader, potentially these 3.
My biggest takeaway is Nico Young. A 10 runner with 3:48 mile speed. Jacob Kiplimo's fastest mile is 3:50, Berihu Aregawi doesn't a record that I could find for a mile, Yomif Kejelcha ran a 3:47 but that was many years ago. Grant Fisher has also run a 3:48, but Nico surely seems on the ascendency in just his 2nd year as a pro. He almost beat Hobbs Kessler.
