New Women's American Record in the Mile

Congrats to Hiltz but this was one of the softest records due to the distance being rarely run. Slaney has 8 out of the top-16 and 3 of the top-5 because it used to be run more often. Slaney only has 2 out of the top-16 times for 1500m.

There are currently several Americans that could potentially break Slaney's 2000m record of 5:32.7. (Hiltz, McGee, Johnson, Schlachtenhaufen, Wiley, Mu, McLean, Purrier-St. Pierre, Houlihan, MacKay, Andrews, and possibly others)

Maybe a reporter will ask Nikki Hiltz that question, and then we will know how Hiltz feels about it.

It’s been established that whatever logic or assumption needs to be accepted in order to get a disputed person into the women’s category will be used to get them in. Gender activists think Lia Thomas “is a woman” because man vs woman is only a matter of gender identity to the activists, so that’s all that was needed to get Lia into women’s swimming. Gender activists think Hiltz “is not a woman” because she doesn’t identify with the female gender, but then they’ll say something like “she’s biologically female” and suddenly THAT will be what matters for allowing her to run with women, even though that standard would have excluded Lia. Don’t look for consistency in gender activism because consistency is not the point for them.

Gault asked uncomfortable questions of Wiley. This is the Woman's record holder. How the heck would a reporter not ask them to discuss how a nonbinary can hold a female record a demand to not be referred to as "she".

Though it might surprise you, I’m in agreement with your basic point (not necessarily with your NPC canned statement about white make egos or whatever). I have said before I don’t mind Hiltz running with women, because I think that’s what she is. I have a problem with the inconsistency in how activists use the terms “sex” and “gender” and their inconsistency regarding which one matters in what contexts, and I have a very, very strong suspicion that there’s no such thing as a non-binary human outside of a currently popular fantasy trend by which people take a preference for LOOKING androgynous (which is their choice and something I don’t criticize) and turning it into some deep-down thing where the person is actually, literally, truly androgynous, which is silly and at least potentially dangerous, if it tends to push people toward surgery, hormone replacement, etc. (I don’t know if it does, but I suspect it might, and as I say, that isn’t the main point, the main point is that “non-binary” is not a real thing.)

Niki rubs people the wrong way because Niki insists everyone use plural pronouns when talking about Niki. But Niki doesn’t use plural pronouns when referring to Niki. Niki uses “I” and “my”. Hypocrisy! Also, competing in the women’s section, claiming women’s records, etc. hypocrisy! Niki demands considerations that Niki doesn’t follow.

Gault needs to chill out. He aggressively corrected Weldon (I think) when he called Hiltz "her" once.

I don’t understand how it’s this hard for folks to understand that Nikki identifies as non-binary and has preferred pronouns that they would like announcers to use out of respect. It’s no different than calling them “Nikki” rather than their full name Dominique. Simultaneously, the professional running world does not have non-binary divisions in most competitions. Since Nikki is a biological female, they have to compete in the female division despite having a gender identity that is not aligned with the race category. Both things can be true at the same time due to the limitations of the sport. This situation is not difficult to understand, and they’re not asking for special accommodations. I get that the broader topic of trans inclusion is sports is complicated, but this person’s participation in track is not. Please find something more interesting to talk about.

I have no idea how Hiltz feels about this question, so I am not speaking for them. But here's how I see it: competition in track and field is split into a binary: men's and women's. Not all people who live in the world fit into that binary. (For example, in my personal opinion, DSD women who do not undertake hormone suppression do not fit well into either the men's or the women's category). Since the only thing that is available to non-binary athletes is that binary, however, these athletes compete in the category that they qualify to compete in. In Hiltz's case, that's the women's category. Each of these categories has records attached to them, and those records are often long-standing and prestigious. It is an amazing achievement for Hiltz to break the women's American record. They are justifiably thrilled by their performance, even if they might wish that a different, non-binary category existed which would better conform with their identity.

So is it also technically the non-binary world record?

I would just Nikki all the time instead of trying yo use pronouns. Just keep saying Nikki what’s so hard about that?
