It may be an interesting question as to whether father time is more harsh on one's road speed versus mountain running strength. If the former, there is the case to be made to try and get the OTQualifier while he is fit and strong enough to do it. If CIM 2020 does go through, that could be the place for him to do it.

True, Seth has a unique gift for climbing mountains fast. But not all US mountain/trail running is steep inclines. He's said in the past he might pursue the longer ultras again, later in life. Now then, if this win did earn him a 'Golden Ticket' to go race mountains in Europe (the Azores), then he might look forward to that.

I like Sage but his recent youtube video in which he talked about how CV was still running rampant across the US (but everything was cool in Boulder) and he was not going to do Pike’s Peak b/c he was worried about passing runners on the way back down was just embarrassing. It seems like he has not been following the science but listening to Karens on CNN/twitter.

Meanwhile irunfar has stopped covering the very few trail races that are happening this year. No idea why but my guess is that they are taking a stand that these races should not be happening yet because of CV. Perhaps they should rename the site to karendoesnotrunfar.com

Explain this article then. My take is that they personally are not willing to travel, and are appreciating a break from what seems like an overwhelming schedule for two people the past decade. They aren't making judgement on other people.

COVID-19 remains rampant around the world, especially in the United States where iRunFar is based. Although races are taking significant measures to reduce the risk of virus transmission at the race site itself, some risk still remains. Additionally, the travel associated with racing is another significant risk. While for countless reasons we wish for things to return to normal as soon as possible, for both iRunFar and the trail and ultra community, we’re not ready to implicitly support a return to racing by publishing race results and covering races in person until we’re comfortable that it’s responsible to do so.

That's cool. They aren't comfortable with it, it's their site. They aren't wrong.

Sure its their site but the fact is these races are happening and have been sanctioned by local authorities. Moreover there is very little evidence that CV spreads in outdoor areas and any start/finish risks can be mitigated by simple social distancing. Would you find it strange if LetsRun decided not to cover the diamond league because Rojo/Wejo thought CV risks were too high? Irunfar is one the key destinations for US trail running news, training, races etc. Racing, sponsors and the professional side of the sport are what drives funding and the continued existence/growth of the sport. Obviously there are going to be a lot of races that will not be coming back as a result of CV. And a lot of professionals and gear suppliers are under severe financial pressure. The decision seems very short sighted.

IRunFar is about running far. Pikes Peak is a short race. They don’t care about tiny races like this unless the world’s best are there. Seth Demoor needs to man up and run far. Running around like a dumb@ss with a GoPro at a World Championship isn’t taking the sport seriously.

Irunfar is much less relevant than it once was. Who care what they do or don't do, really.

Something I'd like to see is for Seth to go into a lab and get his VO2max measured, while he is at this current peak fitness. Maybe have it filmed, too, for his daily vlog. And compare the measured value with the predicted value from his fitness watch.

I'd be surprised if his current VO2max is not at least up into the 80's. Matt 'the lung' Carpenter's pegged over 90.

Did Demoor wear a mask when in close proximity to others, especially at the start and finish? I saw him win a smaller hill climb a couple of weeks ago and he was one of the few who had no mask, no buff, made NO attempt to cover or maintain distance, especially at the finish. I wanted to punch him in the throat when I saw that.

No SJD did not wear a mask. At start of COVID he claimed it wasn't a big deal then had to backtrack his remarks after an uprising in the comments. He had a mask yesterday, but video clips showed it was not worn properly. He was also meeting folks. Dangerous if you have a following IMO.

Sure, but still. He has a platform and should use it wisely. It's not difficult to wear the mask correctly. In fact, he broke the marathon's rules around mask wearing. It's disappointing, but in line with his values if you dig deep into his channel.

Spare us your sanctimony. If you are afraid of the Media Hype Superbug, then stay away from Manitou Springs on Aug 23. Those people are healthy and running a damn race, not visiting a nursing home or working an ICU.
