i dug out michigan and remembered the only reason i bought it was because i knew who marzuki was. christian undertones i abit unsettling but pretty good. may see him in chicago next month.
marzuki or surfjan in chicago?
How do you pronounce Sufjan? Me and a friend got into a debate about this. Does anyone know? BTW, Sufjan Stevens rocks.
To pronounce Sufjan correctly replace the j with an i or e. It sounds like sue-fee-an.
Their sister's name is Djohariah. No joke.
u can watch Sufjan here
Illinoise. Is it good?
illinoise is the bomb. michigan is one of my favorites of the past year, and this is = or >.
sufjan's parents were involved with some kind of obscure sect of islam when he was born, although he himself is now christian.
Please refrain from using the term "the bomb" from this day forward.
ok
Come On! Feel The Illinoise! is one of the best albums of this year. Listen to it; even if it's not your cup of tea, you'll still realize it's a great work.
Please describe the greatness of Illinoise, collegejunior.
It's hard to describe. I haven't listend to it enough to be adequetly describe how good it is. But with some albums, you just listen to them and your like "I may or may not like this, but this is fantastic". Certain albums just give off that vibe. For example, Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde" does, so does The Beatles "Abby Road", Neutral Milk Hotel's "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea", Sonic Youth's "Daydream Nation", Televisions' "Marquee Moon" and so on. Some albums you just listen to and you just know they are great. This is one of those albums.

So you are comparing this Stevens character's album to "Abby Road," "Blonde on Blonde" and "Daydream Nation" ??? Didn't you leave out "Dark Side of the Moon", "Led Zep IV", "Sticky Fingers", "Morrison Hotel", "Who's Next", "Nevermind", and "The Wall" ?? I mean, isn't this Stevens guy with the weird name...isn't his album as good as those other albums too? I mean, you want make a fair comparison, right??
I like John Wayne Gacy Jr. Not the person, but the song.

must be nice to have your musical taste dictated by spin magazine's "top 100 albums of all time" list. deliberately leaving out NMH's "in the aeroplane..." from his list and inserting "nevermind" (among others) is like writing "spoonfed assclown" on your forehead.
in other news, the little i've heard of sufjan stevens is very good. even the crap songs don't stink as bad as nirvana.
I didn't say it was as good as those albums. If you actually learn to read, you will see that I said it gives off the same vibes. When you listen to all great albums, you just get a certain feeling. You get that with this album. Is it as good? Not really, but it's still probably the best album of this year.
i was replying to "here's the deal" not you. i got what you said, and you're money. your list was all superb albums. he kind of made his own list by dropping the nmh album and throwing in shit like nirvana that some self-important spin reporter deemed "significant."
what sufjan songs would you recommend?
