I really hope that Ritz runs well in Boston and makes the 2020 team. He handled himself so well last year when Des tried throwing him under the bus. I became a huge Ritz fan that day. A true class act.

It is amazing that 1:01:27 is a really strong half marathon time, yet your statement is also correct. Jeez... competing against guys that will run that for the first (or second) half of a full marathon.
61:27 times two is a 2:02:54 marathon pace. Let's just round it up to 2:03 marathon. Only five people ever have ran under 2:03:30 for the full marathon. A 2:08 marathon last year would put you at number 73 for top marathon times last year.
Not minimizing anything. Just blows my mind how good 1:01:27, 2:08-2:07 is, yet in London, they will go through the half in 1:01:30.

I was told that Hansons plan to never let Ritz train above 75% intensity or volume. They believe he can run 2:08 off of that.
Whether he's coached by Hanson or himself, 75% is probably a good idea. Mind boggling how many injuries this guy has battled through. He looks 50 now, I remember when he was a HS prodigy.
I thought his struggles at the marathon were not lack of fitness, but cramping/fueling issues, and there was talk his physiology was best for HM and below, and he just kept stubbornly trying to be a marathoner despite relative "struggles" (still talented enough to make team in 2008 and run 2:07 in 2012).
If he can just stay healthy, dude has always been a beast. Younger generation needs to understand he's one of our best talents ever--he destroyed all time talents Webb and Hall in HS XC.
Good for Ritz. I am a big fan but he's run many solid HMs over the year and then failed to make it to the start line of the marathon so not getting my hopes up yet.

Classy? How are you supposed to act when it's highlighted that you're part of gray area practices? There's no rebuttal in a situation like that. You suck it up and hope that people start to forget the mistakes you made.

EK ran his second half in Berlin in 60:32 AFTER coming through in 61:07. Let that sink in. Crazy!
Doesn't Ritz impress every year in the half? I wish he'd stick to the half, clearly his best current distance

Too bad the half isn't a Olympic event, he would probably have a Olympic medal.

Yeah, he ran 1:02 earlier this year. I believe a couple other times recently as well. To my knowledge, it’s his first 1:01:xx in the last 5 yrs or so, but I could be wrong.

Because he didn’t lower himself to her level and bring up the many skeltons in her closet. The fact that you probably don’t even know them speaks to his class.

When did he race earlier this year?
He ran 1:00:12 only 2.5 years ago

Must've done the 62 half in training, like how he ran the American record for 10 miles during a tempo run.

Earlier this year as in within the last 12 months. Definitely not the best wording. He was 1:02 in NYC last March. I had forgotten about his Great North Run. Good call, although we know the course is downhill. Still a great result and superior to a 1:01 regardless of how you “rate” the course.

Shhhhhhhhh. Don’t spoil the perception.

Great come from behind win for Ritz. Looks like he is a real contender to make another Olympic team. I wasn’t sure if that was the case.
Wow, GBohannon, Ye of little faith.
I believed the whole time and still do. He's tougher than most of you give him credit for.
I'm from Michigan and Dathan does NOT train in Grand Rapids area the entire winter, hardly. Whoever Montesquieu is, he doesn't know what he's talking about. He's registered, but is clueless on where Dathan trains.
Dathan WILL be a top contender on February 29th, 2019. The hills won't hurt him at all, just if it's extremely humid that day, otherwise he's got a real chance to make the team.
Ritz and the Hanson’s have a camp near Orlando during the winter months.

My doctorate is from MSU, my wife is from Grand Rapids, and my father-in-law still lives there. So maybe you shouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly. Moreover, since there is no February 29th in 2019, it would be hard for Ritz to be a contender then for anything (if you're going to be harsh to someone, don't make simply mistakes). But since you know so much, what date exactly did (will?) Ritz head down to Orlando to train (something he has only done once previously in his life)?
Lastly, this is part of correspondence I had with Brad Hudson about Ritz and acclimating to Beijing weather in 2007:

Dear Dr. Warner,
Thanks so much for the tip, pretty similar to what we are doing right now in regard to the heat. It is always interesting to hear anecdotal successes.
All the best,

BHudson@bouldertraining.comwith a response like that, U obviously missed the point and the poster clearly got to you. doesn't matter if you live there or not, U are clearly clueless on the winters in GR and how often ritz trains there as your initial post stated. go back to your fictions degrees. also, we don't care about an email to brad, but your ego does.
Ritz was down in Florida 2 weeks ago. He was also down here twice last year. So when you say he’s only been here once is wrong. He also told me that he’s coming back here next week.

With all due respect, that was a pretty hilarious response. Let's summarize-
1) Hey everyone, I have doctorate. I know that is irrelevant to this discussion, but I thought I'd let you know
2) Please call me Dr Warner, you imbeciles.
3) If you are going to be cocky and a jerk, "don't make simply(sic) mistakes". (whoops!)
4) I used to be pen pals with Brad Hudson!
Seriously? no, SERIOUSLY?
