Why the Debbie Downer attitude? Seriously, why are strong, talented women persecuted on here? If anyone can do it, it's Serena. I've enjoyed following her comeback and persistence.
Didn't tennis players used to retire in when they hit 30?

Sometimes earlier. Depends on when they didn't want the drugs in their bodies anymore.
Serena's different.
Until.she tweaked her ankle. Yea post pregnancy she isn't as dominant, San Jose looked pretty ugly then she rebounds to the us open final. Beating the current #1 in her last match (Halep, yea the one with the epic cans)
Maybe she won't win another major, but she's far from done. Federer on the other hand kinda got smoked in this tourney. Who knows. There is some changing of the guard (finally)
It's not over until the fat lady sings.
Only if racist judges call foot faults on her.

I know she's big but that's a bit unkind. And I don't think she can sing.

You mean the Asian woman line judge that Serena said she was going to "ram the f*cking ball down your throat!"

So there are idiots out there who thought Serena was justified in that meltdown!

Devoted Serena Williams fans have lambasted the umpire in charge of her Australian Open quarterfinal defeat against Karolina Pliskova, accusing him of "stealing" victory from the US star.
Serving for the match at 5-1 up in the third set, Williams was called for a foot fault.
Being denied an ace for illegal placement of her feet on the baseline, Williams then twisted her left ankle, receiving an injury which apparently affected her game afterwards.
The holder of the most feared serve in women’s tennis surprisingly wasted her sizable lead, including four match points, losing six games in a row to end her victorious run in Melbourne.
The 37-year-old American was defeated in three sets 4-6 6-4 5-7, failing to set up a rematch with Japan’s Naomi Osaka, who beat her in last year's controversial US Open final.
Frustrated by their idol’s unexpected loss, some Williams fans quickly found a reason for her collapse from a match-winning position, accusing the linesman and umpire of "robbing" the former world number one of victory.
“You can’t call a foot fault at that stage of the match if you haven’t been consistent with the call entire the match [sic]. Her opponent started walking to the net. Williams was robbed!” one fan fumed on Twitter.

LOL. She's been playing for the past 20 years. Before the Williams sisters reignited women's tennis, it was all volleying.
Facts are facts: Women's tennis viewership reached insanely high levels because of Serena and her sister Venus.

Perhaps. But she is not finished; she stands to earn a ton of money for simply playing. Reaching the semifinals or even quarterfinals at her age/after giving birth is a huge accomplishment. From a marketing standpoint, she's winning.

The Kardashians are extremely popular but that doesn't make it good. I'm very exited to move into a new era without the Williams sisters. Actually, Serena is a POS. Venus is not so bad.
And your point about volleying is bizarre and inaccurate.

We aren't discuss what is 'good' or not, we are discussing Serena being 'finished.'

You clearly know nothing about tennis. It's well-known that Martina Hingis was the last successful serve-and-volleyer. Today's rackets do not even enable this type of play any longer ever since the power hitters took over.

Exactly! The last thing women tennis needs any more of is this loud-mouthed, entitled cow.

Hmm, NYT in 2000 already referred to "retro world of the serve and volley" when Hingis was pursuing it.
Hardly the "all volleying" you pretend there to be prior to Williams sisters.
But I understand, narratives are more important than Facts.
