During xc I was running up to about 40mpw with my Sun long runs about an hour with a few close to 90 mins.
Now in indoor my coach has us running about 30mpw with a long run on Sundays of only about 40 mins (about 6 miles).
My main focus is on the 3200 but also the 1600. Any suggestions for how to approach my coach about wanting to run more miles? He's a great guy and he has helped every runner for a long time. By wanting to run more I feel a little like I'm insulting him but we have a lot of kids on the team so I can't be all he worries about.
First, what do you think about bumping my long run on Sundays up to an hour for a few weeks before eventually getting it up to about 75 mins. Then for getting more miles in, should they be slow easy miles that I would basically be adding a double to get in or do I need to up my tempo pace runs which would be hard to do given I'd have to tell the coach I want to keep running even though the rest of the team is done so I wouldn't be stretching with them, doing cool downs with them and would miss all the good coach chats? Sorry but I'm really looking for suggestions. I'm in my junior year of indoor and I know I have to get down to 9:3something to even be able to talk to some of coaches I want to talk to (no, I do realize I'm not talking cash, just getting on teams). Thank you.
