Arsene Wenger
Whose
United has been a team in a rebuild since Sir Alex stepped away and hiring an "authoratative" figure like Mourinho was only going to end like this. The United board wanted a splashy hire because they are the prestigious Manchester United. Should have maybe gone after a manager that 1. Would have stuck around long term (which Mourinho wouldnt have done anyways because he never has) and 2. Was more keen on building a youth system and getting the most out of younger players. (It didnt help that several big name players have spurned United the last few years).
I'd look for them to still try to make a big splash with their next hire. Can they lure Tottenham's manager? Would he want to leave Hotspur for this job given what he's built there? Like it's become an attractive place for players to want to sign%be transferred to because of the organizational and managerial style.
Can United pull off getting Zidane? Would he want the job? Would his style work in England and devoid of a true superstar as they are now? He seems to have a way of managing the players and is good with the youth side, as well.
I'd take a long look at an outsider like Guillermo Barros Schelotto, the current manager at Boca Juniors in Argentina.
They'll probably end up hiring Julen Lopetegui formerly of Real Madrid. Again, big name, but my instinct is he would go to Italy before Man U.
Diego Simeone? Can they lure him from Madrid?
Double-Z! Quick fix, a legend, physically imposing, gotta love him!
