From today's games. Mayfield and Rodgers did not play against eachother while Driskel and Rivers did, but that is irrelevant. Rodgers and Rivers are all-time greats; Mayfield and Driskell are rookies. That is irrelevant.
Mayfield has a much higher completion percentage than Rodgers and far better yards per pass attempt. And only 1 sack for a loss of 6 yards compared to Rodgers' 4 sacks for 34 yards. The only area Rodgers is better is in Touchdown passes - 2:1. But he had almost 50% more pass plays to do so. Yet Rodgers gets a higher rating despite being a little better in one area despite being much worse in the other three. So Touchdowns are HUGE.
Yet when touchdowns are equal, as in the second pairing, thecratings clearly give strong consideration to
Rivers modestly better yards per pass attempt: 7.6 : 6.3 and his one fewer sack (even though he lost almost as many total yards). Does Rivers really merit a rating that is almost 50% better than Driskell's? And if yards per attempt and sacks matter so much in their case, why were they so minor factors in rating Mayfield and Rodgers?
