You know what's overwhelming?
Watching the news from the rest of the country, when in Southern California. Here, local news is entertainment and LA sports-related. The few times something national is addressed, it's weather. Insane snow, tornadoes, ice storms, arctic temperatures, 'Nor-Easters,' hurricanes, that sort of thing.
We have fires in the hills, then mudslides because of that. Bad news, sure, but given the population around here (LA alone is larger than 17 states), it's minor.
Otherwise, we just go about our days. With an awful lot to do, if we want. Fun stuff. Ocean, mountains, desert. I can ski tomorrow if I want, 30 minutes from home, but run later in the day at in 60 degree temperatures.
Ya'll shovel the drive. Rake those leaves. Clean those gutters. Chainsaw those fallen trees. Plan for that 50-degree day, but watch the winds shift ten minutes later and it's 18 outside and you don't have a coat. Fun!
