BS. Yeah, just like Hall last year. Run it once and or shut the trapper. Your 3:45 pace might be the indicator.
It's called a joke.

Left BAA and has been killing it ever since. Why does she not have a contract? Does she have an agent or is she trying to go it alone?

I think she pays the annual fee for UPS My Choice and that takes care of everything she needs.

I nominate Emma Bates as the 'NotSoBravey' of 2018
Sorry to burst your bubble.... but....
https://twitter.com/emmajbates/status/946787586990903296She's still fine though
I’m not sure why a twitter post from a year ago is relevant. She wasnt living off grid yet.
Good for her. Nice to see her bounce back well from some rough years.
Does she have a shot at making the team for Tokyo? Top 5? Top 7?

Yes she does.
Leaving B.A.A. was a great decision. Terrible training group. The East Coast/Adidas version of OTC: where talent goes to die.
I've always dreamed of living out in the sticks and training like a monster. Pretty awesome she actually did it. Maybe what actually works for a lot of people is going all monk.
Not at the same level, but it's like an Idaho version of Kipchoge.

I disagree

I remember when Emma Bates got 2nd to Abby D in 2013 NCAA XC and then got 2014 NCAA 10,000m title on the track. She struggled for a bit post-collegiately, I remember seeing her slogging through the 10,000m at the 2017 Portland Track Festival and thinking, this girl is done. Very happy to have been proven wrong. It's inspiring to see a comeback like that.
Go Emma!!!
Good for her, but I'm seeing squandered potential. Emma is the epitome of the post-collegiate scene in the US. Had a sponsored group situation and stuck to the track in vain while that ran its course. Then goes to the marathon and finds significant success immediately. She was with BAA, should have run Boston three times in four years. BAA's program, like that of most other post-collegiate distance groups, is as much to blame as anything else. Kids, unless you win multiple titles on the track in college or are going to USAs a couple times as a collegian, you need to get on the roads and progress to the marathon in the first couple years out of college. That's your best shot at breaking out and getting breakthroughs. Do not waste good time and wind up finding your ceiling lowered as a result of waiting too long to get to the marathon.

Nope, won't happen. Only top 7 is a possibility, as some top runners DNF if top 3 is not within realistic reach. So perhaps a flukey top 5, as well. If this had happened a year or two ago, maybe darkhorse to make the team.
In her defense, she had one NCAA track title, and a 3rd, 4th and 5th placings as well. She also went to two USA's as a collegian. So your point is moot regarding her, by your own criteria.
It's a combination of factors. By multiple, I mean three or more. So my criteria stands. Look at the usual case of people who make Olympic teams.
Bates is closer to a Desi than to a Kara or Shalane. Desi wasn't even close to making the team her first couple of years in the marathon, even beyond comparing marks the field for Atlanta will be stacked with far more proven performers.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
