I just entered a marathon which is in the middle of February, my last one was about a year ago where I ran 2:58. My mileage before the 2:58 was very inconsistent, with 2 weeks at 60 mpw, a few at 40, some at 30 and a couple at 0-10. I really haven't raced at all since but the past 6w I have been running consistently 40mpw.
No quite sure what shape I am in now, but I do weekly 20-30 min tempos at 6:05-pace, and my have done 2 30k runs around 7 min pace which felt very easy. Also have at least 5lb to shed.
My plan is to build up to 60mpw in about a month, and then try to get 6w before my taper. I plan on keeping my tempo, and possibly adding another tempo focusing on HMP, and then add a lot of work at MP on my long runs. Is it unreasonable to shoot for a big pr since my mileage has been so inconsistent? Is there a good base line workout I could do that would show me I'm not completely off base here?
