He either wins or DNF.
Walmsley is the most overrated runner since Al Gore invented fire. He is the modern day Eddie the Eagle.
He will DNF.
Walmsley and Herron probably will not finish TNF50.
But they will win the most overrated runner of the year award.
What's faster downhill, HOKAs or 4%?
This is like Ian Sharman's 29:00 downhill 10K.
This is still damn impressive.
Seems fast but it is only worth about 14:54 on a flat course.
Then you have to remember that he was at 8000 ft, so then again the flat
course at a lower elevation is worth about 14:32 at sea level.
All that aside I think he will have a pretty good run at TNF 50, there is
only so much that can go wrong for him in 6 hours (outside of getting lost).
This should put all other American marathoners on notice. Can't wait to see him on the Olympic marathon team.
Doesn't he win and set records at just about every 50 mile to 100k race he runs?

there are guys he will be racing at the trials who have run a 10k at that pace, on flat ground.
He will break the course record by 15 minutes. He is in great shape, and the 50 mile distance is in his wheelhouse.
Not only was it at altitude, but it was on trails, with switchbacks so that's worth a decent amount.
It's just one idiot poster....... wrote:

I have to admit that he has a good chance of winning this race. But we will see.
If it was Kilian he would have jumped off the trail and blasted straight past all the switchbacks.
Anyway, JW is fast as hell...in training, and in most races under 50M. 100s, not even 50%. TNF is right in his wheelhouse. Not a huge fan, but I admit he is the favorite for sure.

When you can run a 14:30 100 mile race in 100+ degree heat, with thousands of feet of elevation change thrown in, come back and detail a race report, would love to hear it...we'll be waiting..

That's his level. 14:32 is pretty consistent with the 31+ 10K that he ran a while back.
Yeah, remember his 38 miler where he closed in 2:30:05 for the last 26.2 miles?
I think if he focuses on a run for 2020 he'll run in sub-2:14 range.
The problem is that Marathons consist of accurate miles not strava miles.
And for a 2:14 you need to run the 10k around 29:10ish.
I believe it when I see it.

The excuses from this guy and his supporters never stop.
I'm not buying it. (1) It's based on GPS. Never accurate. (2) Even worse, anyone have a Fenix 3 or newer? Garmin, Suunto, etc, have enabled what's called "3D Speed and Distance." Means for every foot you run down, you get a foot of "distance" in addition to the distance you run. He didn't run a full distance 5k in 13:34 is all I'm saying. So, not only did he run that 13:34 downhill, but it's not 3.1 miles.

There are 3 Americans ever that have ran faster than 27:08 for the 10k, only two if them are active, and one has never run a half marathon or above.
Walmsley will own them all in Hot-lanta.
