Uhhhhh-ohhhhhh. Not good signs.
Name sounds familiar. I think he won the Indy Mini this year.

If he's Mesfun, perhaps he was escaping his scandalous past.

Sounds like a good job for marathoninvestigatorguy.com
Yes, he is the same guy who won Indy-Mini and won the Cleveland marathon. His middle name is Teklebrhan and last name is Mesfin. The organizer at Waterfall marathon used his middle name instead of his last name. Anyway good run for him. His PR was 2:12 from 2015 now he run 2:10. He is talented. He will become a U.S citizen one day.

Or go back to Eritrea and live like a king with all his prize money.
Ohhhh I thought he was a pacer for Cam. Right after he finished he went over & hugged Cam + his family. Maybe he just happened to be running the same pace and they helped push each other. Still weird to have a 4 digit bib & go with the 2:09 pace group.
He has some sort of status in the US. Otherwise, a random Eritrean would not be admissble to Canada for the weekend.

Cam mentioned working with someone during the race. He didn't know who he was but said he was grateful for the company and hoped he got a good time as well.
To reiterate what others have said:
Daniel Teklebrhan is the same person as Daniel Mesfun. I asked Canadian journalist Paul Gains if he knew anything about him and this is what Paul emailed me:
"Alan Brookes, the Toronto [race director], says Daniel is Eritrean, living in Flagstaff. He had applied for an elite entry after Toronto had closed the elite entries SO he entered online. Hence the number 3649 he wore during the race."
He's well known in his home country.
He was entered later than the elite entry close date that is the reason for the 4 digit on his bib. He has a green card so one day he hopes to run for the USA. The country that gave him an opportunity to run again freely.
Yes he trains in flagstaff and has trained with a friend of mine, he was with Cam for most of the race.
I watched the coverage. After finishing he was very respectful not to butt into Cam’s celebration. He waited patiently before approaching to shake hands as they congratulated each other.
Josh Cox...take notes.
How long until we can give him citizenship?
