I was “lucky” enough to grab a pair from the Nike Chicago flagship store upon release, and my initial 3-mile pre-race shakeout in them felt like heaven.
However, during the race, the left insole completely detached and folded up in my shoe. I had to stop and fix it multiple times, which was obviously frustrating. This began around mile 11 after them being soaked to the core.
I like my shoes snug, and bought these accordingly. But, I felt like Bambi running on a frozen pond in them. So much movement and slippage, which definitely took its toll come mile 20.
Wondering if anyone else who raced in these in CHI had a similar experience? Was it the FK upper’s lack of “lock-down” capability? Was it the rain? Was my pair defective? Likely a bad combination.
I also noticed 5 or 6 runners pulled over fixing theirs along the way, so thinking I might not be an n of 1.
Luckily, the store just let me return them for a full refund. They’re obviously sold out, so I couldn’t try another pair - but will certainly left to wonder if my pair was defective or this shoe is just simply a sophomore flop.
Certainly made me almost exactly 4% slower.
