Hi everyone,
I am in the midst of the "peak" part of a marathon training cycle. It is only my 2nd marathon, so I don't have a lot to compare to. I am hoping to run 3:45 (though I am worried I haven't trained effectively enough to quite make this time).
Basically, I am a bit concerned right now that I may be "overtraining". I wasn't training too, too hard before getting into the marathon training schedule, and wonder if I have been too ambitious. I am wondering if a few days/week off entirely might be beneficial?
I ran 32 km/20 miles yesterday (the 2nd of 3 20 mile-ish runs). It was 26 degrees C/34 w/humidex outside, so quite hot. I still ran in a pace of 9:48/mile or 6:06/km (though I took a number of short breaks, which were not factored in), which was probably a bit fast, given the weather. Last week I ran a 12 miler with 8-10 km at tempo-ish pace (about 5:05/mile), and the week before, a 19ish miler (30 km), also in the heat, and probably at slightly too fast a pace (5:46/km/9:17 mile). In addition, I ran a ragnar trail relay (25 km of difficult trail running, all at threshold pace).
I am feeling like my legs are pretty tired. My cardio seems fine, but my legs were already quite tired at 20 km/12 miles during yesterday's 20 miler. While I could physically keep my pace at a decent level, it was very taxing on my legs/unpleasant.
I am wondering if there is a chance I have been wearing myself out too much, and determining whether this is "normal" tiredness, or overtraining?
For the record, my previous PRs/times are as follows:
5 km - 23:20
10 km - 48:00
half marathon - 1:50 (I believe I am/have been capable of better, but simply haven't raced another half marathon since)
marathon - 3:59 (it was warm, and I believe I could have done a few minutes faster in better conditions)
Thanks!
