So the girl dies and the employer who lured the culprit to the area gets to pay a fine?
Sounds about right.

so what math convinces me and the girls family that it is the rate of crime that matters, not how many people are killed?
the math that says that it's safer to live in a city of a million with 100 murders per year than it is to live in town of 100 with 10 murders per year.
I don't know one way or the other about your "lured" claim, but they say they did some checking and he passed as far as having a social security number among other things. Now apparently, it has turned out that it was not his social security number. He must have had some sort of fake ID with his own picture. But, if you insist the employer gets some blame, then so does everyone up to and including Obama for not controlling the border and letting him in the country.
once again, tell that to the girls family "with this guy here statistically this area was safer than it would have been without him". good luck with that. "Lies, damn lies, and statistics"
What is disturbing is that an undocumented immigrant committed murder in a town of 1300 people. It was a small community, and this event is being highlighted throughout the whole nation. It also makes you wonder what the undocumented immigrant population is like in Iowa.
He worked for a person who was willing to look the other way. If so called conservatives were serious about fixing the "illegal" immigrant problem, they would. It's cheaper to look the other way.
According to this article title, she was a jogger. She was not a runner as the OP stated. Fake News!

What’s the purpose of this saying in this thread?
Yeah, and the suspected killer allegedly blacked out after he stalked the victim.
Fake News!
Not too far afield from the incident which led to former Illinois governor George Ryan going to prison.
Because Americans dont kill people? This dude is a piece of garbage, but this seems to be a distraction to take focus off of half the Republican party being indicted. Timing is also suspicious. This is probably a frame job set up by the Gov. We do this type of stuff to stir the pot in other countries all the time.

Even though immigrants have lower crime rates than US citizens, it is a fact that one of "our own" got killed by an illegal immigrant. We shouldn't tolerate any criminal behavior from immigrants. Maybe this is a singular event, but ... the wall just got 10 feet taller (metaphorically).
My parents are legal immigrants.
That dude from Vegas killed 58 people and injured 851. He had enough rifles in his room to arm two SWAT teams. This whole “one of our own” stuff is awful logic, because there are definitely other people out in America killing way more people. What’s your opinion on that guy and his firearms?

Are there bad citizens in the US? Yes. Do bad people come in all flavors? Yes.
The point is that non-citizens here illegally commiting crimes are a security problem that the government should be able to control to better protect its citizens from.
No need to make this a race issue. It's a security and sovereignty issue.
M.A.G.A...
But isn't it maybe a race issue? If as people are claiming, that statistically illegal immigrants are apparently less likely to commit crimes, and now his defence team is claiming he was here legally, is it possible that some "cultures" are more likely to commit violent offences toward women than others? If we accept his immigration status is irrelevant, is there anything to show that maybe people coming from certain countries/backgrounds are more violent? I don't know the answer to this, I'm just asking... maybe men are just violent.

You would be an excellent leader in our community.
I would be. Good leaders don't pander to those with exclusionary viewpoints. There's no need to sugar coat when someone's opinions are blatantly misinformed and ill-willed. Unless you're dealing with snowflakes, lmao, see what I did there.
I don't think "one of our own" stuff is awful logic.
I never followed that story closely because it had that mental-illness stigma surrounded it. A quick google search showed that he was imprisoned and then he escaped, and then he committed the crime. You can say he is "one of our own" - he is an American citizen. But he's also a criminal. He was also monitored by the FBI, but they failed to stop him from murdering 58 people.
The undocumented immigrant case could have been prevented. Purely because the murderer of Mollie Tibbetts could have been excluded from entering the US because he is illegal.
You can't stop people from committing crime. But you can stop people from being in that time and place - a perfect condition that a perpetrator would act on.
You have a right to be here if you go through the process - even though it's strict and ridiculous. But then if you enter here illegally, and commit a crime - it makes me think that even though you enter the US here, where it is considered a "paradise" compared to your original home, why'd you ruin it?
Why would someone go to Church just to disturb the ceremony and proceedings? That's what this undocumented immigrant did.

If you ignore the massive benefits that immigration confers to the US, I could see this making sense. Treating immigrants as neutral until they commit a crime -- then you start to question why they are here.
But immigrants are a massive boon to the US. They contribute to the economy across all skill levels and they are the only reason we are facing far less fear from an aging population than other highly-developed countries (Japan being the obvious extreme example). The only reason the US population is even increasing is due to immigration.
Add to this the fact that immigrants commit less crime per capita than native born Americans, it's hard to see any draw backs. Nuking the immigration system as a knee-jerk reaction to crime that we understand as better-than-average statistically would hurt America.
Immigration reform != nuking immigration
What if we did nuke the immigration system?
Any crime committed by an undocumented immigrant will spike a rise in penalties and punishment.
Wouldn't a persecuted class of people want to set an example for the rest of their neighbors in order to demonstrate that not everyone has ill-intent?
We all know that isn't realistic.
So are we really going to allow immigrants into the US even though they offer an economic benefit? Is a slightly marginal increase in the safety of our own worth the physical labor and hard work of other immigrants? Are we going to start viewing people the way insurances view people and their liability claims? Statistics, liabilities, damages, and fees?
Why would be base our security of our loved-ones on good-faith and trust that our neighbor or member of our community wouldn't do us harm?
I guess we'd be fine in letting our daughters take an Uber home by herself because that Uber monitors that driver and their license plate number. Nothing could go wrong because that Uber driver is monitored and interacts with members in our community.
