So I’m fairly new to running (second year) and I’m still trying to figure out if I’m getting enough work in. This was our first real week of practice, and on Monday we did 10x300m with 300m at 7 minute pace recovery in between, and today we did 6x400m hills with slow jog back down recovery. I’ve heard what some other schools with fairly good running programs have been doing (5x7 1000m repeats, 3x10 minutes threshold) and I’m worried that when it comes time to race, I’m going to be behind. My coach said we’re building aerobic base right now, which I understand, and later on we’ll get to the faster stuff. Our school has had only 2(maybe 3) runners break 17, so I’m not entirely buying into the program that I’m doing. I really want to break 17, and eventually get into the 15s by the time I graduate, so I was wondering if I could get examples of what workouts I should be doing during each “phase” of the season?
